Thread: Nick Malceski and other departing Swans

I don't think the mummy for buddy swap is as simple as made out. Mummy was out of favour with Longmire after the 2012 grand final, sheer he played injured and had to be subbed out .We could have kept mummy and lost other player(s) instead to gey buddy.
Imagine a mummy / tippet ruck combo now.

I prefer to look at how things ended up after all of these player movements rather than imagine what might have been if he didn't do this trade or that one. The result has been is we've been up there near the top of the table for quite a few years and now find ourselves seriously challenging for another premiership. And the best of all is that we have a relatively young team that seems destined to be very competitive for years to come.

I'm happy for all those ex swans that have moved on and playing well at other clubs. Yet despite how many we've lost, we find ourselves in a position where it's difficult to name enough players to delist or retire at year end to make room to meet the minimum draft numbers and promote rookie players that deserve to be on our senior list. So you would have to say that whatever the player dealings we've made in recent times were, it's turned out beneficial. No rebuilds, no falling out of the 8. We just keep motoring on.

If we had kept Mummy, we probably would have never found out just how good a ruckman Tippett could be.

If you had the benefit of hindsight & you could keep only one of Tippett or Mummy (based on current form & future potential) as your number one ruckman, at the time we lost Mummy, who would you have kept?

It's pretty close, but I think Tippett is more valuable as he's a serious goal kicking threat. Mummy's big strength is his tackling, but I feel we have plenty of coverage in that area with our mids and prefer to have ruckmen who can mark the ball around the ground and can kick goals.

It will be interesting to see how we use Sinclair against the Mummy-Lobb combination with our undersized defense, and if Sinclair get's a defensive assignment on the resting ruckman rather than presenting as a forward, where he hasn't offered all that much so far.

As much as I loe Mummy, its Mal I still cannot come to terms with. I hate the fact that he left. I don't care why, I just don't like him in other colours.

As for nearly all of the others, they have to move some guys on as part of the draft set up by the AFL. The Swans nearly always try and make good deals for them. None of them have gone from being heros to zeros at other clubs. In some cases they have shone, just like when we pick up from other clubs. Its a matter of having the right balance within the teams. Other than Mums, Dempster and Schneider I can't see how we have missed anything, just gained. But, I hate Mal leaving.

Yup. Adam was told about the potential trade while on holidays if I recall correctly - & wasn't happy

    Dempster sweetened the deal

I do have a soft spot, but no great loss so far. Spanger was a bigger loss than Jesse
Everyone loves the Spang, but the reality is that he's only fit for about 8 games a year. I would think his latest hamstring injury will see him pull the plug at the end of the season.

For that reason alone he hasn't been a loss

If we are going to mourn the loss of Jesse White, then we may as well add Tony Armstrong to the conversation as well.

    And the Vez.

Scott Stevens was another we lost out on. But it was good to see him eke out a career from limited talent.

I think we probably got the best out of Stevo. Crows probably got better value from Fitzy

Made the right choice for Club and for Dunkley and the dogs made a good pick for their game style - Dunkley plays NEAFL with Swans for at least to years barring injuries
