Round 14: Sydney Swans Reserves v NT Thunder @ SCG

    NEAFL 2016 Round 14

Sydney Swans Reserves v NT Thunder @ SCG

    Saturday 2nd July 2016
    12.55pm
    Sydney Cricket Ground

The defending premiers NT Thunder visit the SCG for the first time, with previous visits to Sydney being hosted at Drummoyne and Blacktown. These 2 sides have clashed 6 times in NEAFL's history, twice in Sydney and four times in the NT with the home side comfortably winning each match.

Usually hampered with player unavailability due to the travel logistics, the Thunder will finally bring to Sydney a near full strength side, in particular big names Jared Brennan, Raph Clarke, Cam Ilett, Darren Ewing and the 2 Riolis (Ben and Shannon). The Swans will field a relatively healthy side themselves with 16 listed players named on the team sheet.

    Changes
    In: Aliir, Leonardis
    Out: Abe DAVIS (senior emergency)

The hot emergency shuffle continues with Davis replacing Leonardis as the non-playing emergency. Aliir will slot into Abe's key defensive role alongside Teddy. Murray played his best game as a Swan in a half back role against Aspley, but may have to relinquish that role with Leonardis returning to the side.

There are a few ex-AFL players in the Thunder lineup - Brennan, Tambling, Clarke - but the arguably the two most dangerous NT players aren't ones that have been on an AFL list.

Skipper Cam Ilett is the driving force of their midfield and has consistently put himself forward as one of the best midfielder in the NEAFL. Expect to see Jordan Foote line up alongside Ilett at the first bounce and follow him all over the ground.

Forward Darren Ewing continues to tally up the goals and after winning the NEAFL goalkicking award last year, looks set to replicate that feat sitting on top of the leaderboard with 44 goals in 11 games, 16 clear of the Jacob Derickx of Sydney Uni. Xavier Richards has been his usual Swans opponent but with X finding a new lease of life as a born again full forward, it may be left to his older brother Ted or Aliir to mark Ewing instead.

Thanks heaps Ugg. For family reasons I can't get to the footy in time to see the Ressies but this is one game I'd love to be there to see.

Darren Ewing: How is it possible that someone listed at 183 cm and 95 kgs continues to be a goal scoring colossus?
Is he the next prototype full forward?
Are tall forwards only good in bar fights?
Can the Swans beat a team with TWO Riolis?
Will Kyle Galloway earn himself his first coach's vote (does neatness count)?

These are the burning questions everyone is asking before this pivotal game.

    He rarely wastes a kick.

2016 = 95 kicks for 44 goals 16 behinds (63.16% of his kicks scored a point or better)
2015 = 173 kicks for 84 goals 40 behinds (71.68% of his kicks scored a point or better)
2014 = 162 kicks for 73 goals 33 behinds (65.43% of his kicks scored a point or better)
2013 = 154 kicks for 80 goals 27 behinds (69.48% of his kicks scored a point or better)

That's not including shots that didn't score anything

Thanks ugg, locked and loaded and ready to go.

They haven't shifted the game yet. Of course they haven't confirmed they ARE playing at SCG yet

I'm looking forward to getting there early to see this game live - I haven't seen a live game as yet this year and the Thunder should be really strong opposition. Should be a top game.

We are going to be at the scg fairly early today so hopefully will get to watch a large part of the game - nt thunder are a great team to watch so it should be a great prelude.
