Everyone has an occasional (or more frequent) shocker when nothing goes right and one lurches from one disaster to another. Today was Henson Park's turn to have a shocker.
The NEAFL game was canned at half time when a sinkhole opened up in the centre square. For the next hour or so, sand and mud was put on to fill the hole and eventually the ground was passed fit for the Div 2 game to go ahead. Only for the lights to go out late in the second quarter.
They got the lights back on for the second half of Div 2 and then Premier Division, and the makeshift repairs to the surface held up. But not a great day for the iconic stadium.

Just letting you know in advance I won't be able to get this week's report up till Monday night. I'm at the airport about to fly to BrisVegas for the day, and realised I left my laptop at home. (oops!)
I may be able to get some of it done tomorrow during the day, depending on work, but I suspect I won't be able to finish it until after I've knocked off.

But some interesting results. Pennant Hills making a move towards the top 3, UTS maybe dropping off the pace. And who's going to stop East Coast?

It was remarkable that nobody happened to run through that area during the game because it could have led to a catastrophic injury seeing how badly the ground gave way. The council need to do some surveying to work out why it happened because I wouldn't be surprised if there was a reoccurrence elsewhere on the ground.

I know one of the umpires who was umpiring during the game. The hole was very close to the centre circle, about 1/2 a metre wide but unbelievably, around 2m deep!!!! One of the boundary umps was stepping through it during the half time break when it opened up. Amazing that it hadn't done it during the game given the amount of traffic in that area. Must be something to do with the drainage they put in 5 or 6 years back collapsing, which should raise some concerns about similar issues around the rest of the ground.

We played a trial at Picken back in 06, wasn't in great condition at the time. During an 'emu bob' pre game, one of the boys started pushing some soil around at CHF towards the club house and produced a 12ft length of rusted corrugated iron, bent and jagged edges and all!!
