Read on the ESPN website that several GC players are saying that JOM is definitely leaving. Maybe a deal has already been done. But with Who?

It wouldn't surprise me if Hawthorn started the Mitchell to Hawthorn rumour to cover the real story of them getting JOM.

Though if Sydney were after JOM, like the Canadian mounties, they always get their man.

Not always, we were after Leuenberger before we managed to get Sinclair instead.

Zero chance that we're chasing JOM unless we're planning to give them one of our premium mids (e.g. Hanners, Parker) in return. Outside of that we don't have the trade currency, nor the salary cap space.

Who really needs trade currency these days?

Teams without huge salary cap space?

If he chooses to move then JOM would be restricted, so we'd need to trade for him.

Might clear $450k of space, but would still be short of JOM salary demands. We have Buddy and Franklin on decent coin, so we're unlikely to be making a play at another expensive and in-demand player. If we did, questions would have to be asked about what happens to guys like Heeney and Mills in a couple of years when they're worth more money. We'll have players like Rampe and Rohan attracting bids from other clubs too. Then even if we manage to keep those guys, we risk losing our other talented youth like Hewett, Jones, Robinson, and younger guys like Newman, Dawson etc.

Other clubs already wonder how we've managed to fit two big fish in one salary cap. Hard to see how we'd still be hunting more in the top end price bracket.

Is it possible that the club has changed tack with the 2 players who was well over paid in their last contract, Tom Mitchell and Sam Reid.

Both, with Reid next year, maybe, will be offered a contract that falls within there normal boundaries and if not, so be it. If Tom doesn't sign, it's about money or the fact I want more than I got last time, and a lot.

I thought that Reid would find some better footy this year due to the reduction of rotations, faster play movement etc.

Buddy on one wing, with Reid on the other providing a big target and quick movement and separating defenders. Is possible that Reid is a target for other teams.

No Reid this year has hurt us. Lets hope he can play this year and show us what you can do.

Unfortunately Reid's body seems to have the same frailties as his brothers.

I think we should trade him out, if there is a suitable suitor, with a suitable draft pick....Maybe to Collingwood.

This along with Mitchell would create significant cap room, and add some early draft picks for us to trade with.
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MT

Do we actually have any evidence of O'Meara's asking price? Clearly it's a possibility (given the contract Boyd got) but $800k for an injury-prone midfielder who has achieved very little is way overs. So I completely agree, we're no chance at $800k.

The numbers being thrown about seem to start at $700k+. Just seems like it'd be an odd move to further invest in the mids when we're struggling for forward targets with Reid being injured all year.
