Thread: Gary Ayres Award/Medal

    Gary Ayres Award/Medal

The Gary Ayres medal will honour the best player across the finals series. Competing coaches will vote in the same 5-4-3-2-1 format as the home and away season to determine the winner, which will be announced on the Monday following the Grand Final.

Does that mean a player in a team that finishes the home & away season 5-8 or a team that finishes 1-4 but loses in the first week of the finals but goes on to play in the grand final, is more likely to win the Ayres medal? As they will play more finals games and therefore have better opportunities to poll votes?

I thought the same thing, it favours players who play all 4 weeks

Looking at the results so far, it seems a solid win gets a bunch of high end votes, & deprives the losing team of votes - having said that any team who has three games to get to a grand final will have a couple of wins minimum.

It's if a 5th-8th team makes the granny - they had to have 3 wins to get there, so a good chance of votes

    Should be:

    Johnson 10
    Mumford 8
Umpires the rest for no calls on brutal acts, and the Heeney mark

Their dastardly acts took away any chance of a win.

    Completely agree.

Keating played 139 games of AFL football. He may have only played well in finals, but he played plenty of non-finals games.

Bill James (Richmond) his only career senior game was the 1920 Grand Final. Now there's a finals specialist!
