Buddy injuring his ankle in the first 5 mins was a mortal blow.

Most of our other forwards, most notably, Tippett, Rohan, Richards, went missing.

Loosing Hanners early in the 4th (a correct umpires decision doesn't change his injured knee), another mortal blow.

Dogs finishing the 4th quarter stronger than us.

To me, these are the main reasons we lost, not the umpiring
If the umpiring had been equal we would have been holding a lead of 15+ for most of the game (and they wouldn't have scored off Reg's "no mark". The umps helped the Dogs stop our fast start.

Yes they finished stronger but I wonder how it would have gone if we'd been defending our lead.

Not only that, consider the mindset of the two opposing teams. One team is rewarded for going hard at the footy, the other is penalised. What does that do to the manner the game is played in? I'm sure our boys were questioning themselves at each contest, which no doubt affected their usual "hard, take no prisoners" approach to contested footy.

Yes, and I would argue, that if the earlier sliding infringements had have been paid, then Wood probably would've exercised more caution and not crunched Hannebery's knee. Therefore, our best gut runner would still had been on the field, to help counteract the Dogs late run.

Just did some stats on Frees. (Hope I got it correct)

We had 28 different umpires over the 26 games.
    Total Frees for the Year.
    467 For
    519 Against

4 times we had a positive free kick differential.
3 times we had the same free kick count.
19 times we had a negative free kick differential.

Simon Meredith 5 games for 3 wins, free kick for 51, against 59
Scott Jeffery 6 games for 3 wins, free kick for 64, against 65
Matt Stevic 3 games for 1 win, free kick for 38, against 41

the 3 umps had positive free kick differential for us before the GF, but not after.

So not the best umpires we had for the year, but not the worst.
Schmitt, Nicholls and Donlon were the worst. Until the last game.

Where did you get the individual umpire frees for/against stats from?

ScottH... you've awoken the stat monster!!
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Even umpiring would have made it a 50/50 game.

Ah but that's the total for the game for the 3 umpires, but I was thinking you had the stats for which umpire paid which free kick which AFAIK is not publicly available.

It frustrates me when people tell others to move on......it's far from the first time we've had to 'move on' and while we'd all like to (again!), when do you suggest we move on to? The next time the Swans get shafted by the league or the umpires? You know it will happen.......but I suppose we can just 'move on' yet again, while the AFL smile smugly.

    Ah. Sorry.
Yes, it is per game. Not per Umpire.
I doubt that individual frees are available to the public.

It's definitely not, but as was revealed earlier in the year with the Pannell Bulldogs Crows FK controversy, those stats are definitely recorded
