    Wink Named best defence 2016

Who has the best defence? We rank every club - AFL.com.au

Woohoo, nice write up and assessment of the backs, nothing we didn't already know.

Bring on 2017. I can't pick my best, it depends on how AJ goes and a couple of the newbies.... then there's Talia and ......

Good luck to J Longmire and the selection crew.

What is impressive is the potential backups for injury/future - the named 6 plus Jones nominated as interchange.

Talia and Maibaum for key positions
Laidler can play up or down on talls and mediums
Marsh and Newman with O'Riordan for run and carry

Nick Smith is currently a lone ranger as a lockdown small defender

Who would have thought that this would be the case 12 months or so back given the dire predictions floating around about the lack of defensive depth and quality on our list.

There is something about Dan Robinson that makes me think he could play a similar role.

Robinson is not a smart enough footballer. Don't think he has the hardness to play the Smith role.

Robinson only played the 1st 7 games last year - average 5 tackles a game.

    A start.

I wish I could. I feel he would has the discipline to play the role requires. Based on nothing more than what I have seen in his senior games and the training sessions up here is Coffs.
