Changes for Round 12 v Bulldogs

    Shall we move on?

In Harley's injury report today he suggested Reid, Lloyd, Naismith and Jack were fit to play. There were no 'if selected' caveats, but surely there's a question about whether the latter two should return in the seniors or the NEAFL squad.

I think Florent should play ressies. He still lacks the confidence to impose himself on AFL games. It'd be good if he could build up a period of form in the NEAFL, rather than play a week in and a week out. Options to replace him are Jack and Dawson. Personally, even though Jack has been out for 5 weeks, if he's fit he should play. We need experience and hardness.

The ruck slots are a toss up. There are arguments for and against all three. Personally, if Naismith is fit he should start in the centre and Tippett play forward/resting ruck. But I'd be happy with any selection.

Finally, I'd love us to find a place for Aliir. We need his game turning ability. It feels a bit silly that he isn't playing. The issue is the 3 tall defenders deserve to be selected. It was interesting that he seemed to play a swing man role in the last NEAFL game. I'd be happy for him to replace Reid in that role. But I guess Reid isn't going to be dropped, so perhaps they could play Reid as a specialist forward and have Aliir roam. If that happened it would probably be at the expense of Hayward, but he probably deserves another game after benefiting from a break.

    After all that...

    OUT: Florent, Sinclair
    IN: Jack, Naismith

Agree with all of that. Jack for Florent makes sense if Jack is genuinely fit and firing, rather than needing a couple of games in the 2s to find touch.

I'd bring in Naismith for Sinkers too but same principles apply and NEAFL might be a better option.

I have to hope they'll only play Jack / Naismith if they are ready, but recent experience says otherwise.

One way to get Aliir into the team (h/t Ludwig) would be by playing one ruckman (no idea who that should be, but perhaps Tippett or bust) and then use Reid as fill-in ruck and Aliir can play 7th defender in place of Reid. (Seeing as Longmire loves playing 7 back)

Yes let's....but before we get into serious selection chat, here's some brilliant observations from the most entertaining footy journo there is, Titus O'Reilly, of last weeks round: **** Port Adelaide (98) v Hawthorn (47):"Port Adelaide were so good on Friday night they didnt even play the second half and still won comfortably.

The Hawks produced their worst first half ever, or their funniest, its all about perspective."

****Geelong (96) v Adelaide (74):"The one downside for Geelong was Tom Hawkins throwing a jumper punch. I can just imagine Chris Scott talking to him after the game.

What was the one thing I told you not to do?

You said not to jumper punch anyone.

    And what did you do?

    I jumper punched someone.

Exactly. You didnt see me running around punching people when I played.
****Josh Kelly (117) v Essendon (101): "While the Giants are currently terrifying everyone south of the border, Im not completely convinced. Essendon wasn't embarrassed here, and the Bombers are a long way from a top four side. Essendon fans would have left this game disappointed but happy their club is trending in the right direction. The Bombers just lacked about 20 first round draft picks." More gold from Titus.....brilliant stuff! ........Ok, I've had a few whiskeys tonight......and I thought they were good enough to share. Hope you enjoyed......

We played Tippett and Naismith against the Bulldogs in the GF and in Round 2 and lost both games, albeit Tippett was injured in the game which really hurt. But I think we should only play one ruckman. I would go with Tippett and hope the he's spurred on by all the negative comments made about him in the past week. I would give him a central role of having to hold down the ruck position and see if he brings a physical dominance which he is capable of.

I thought we should have brought Aliir into the side last game and I think he must come in now. Aliir can play anywhere. He kicked 3 goals in the last NEAFL game and we know he's played in the ruck. It also gives the Bulldogs something worry about rather than the same bland Swans.

If the medicos and coaches say Jack is fit and ready to go, then I suppose he should play. Otherwise, I wouldn't mind seeing Dawson get a game.

I wish you'd stop flip-flopping on this one ruckman, two ruckman issue. Make up your mind man.

The only change I'd make is:
    In: Talia
Out: whoever the latest scapegoat is.

Speaking of Edwards what is his best role? HB, HF or wing?

Does edwards have to be upgraded ?

We need a player like him to be the player we need in 2018 so let's get games into him now in snrs

Edwards is a rookie, but he's 23. I look forward to getting rid of the rookie category and the unnecessary grading of our players.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I, for one, will welcome our new rookie overlords.

Why have the rookie list at all and the unnecessary regulations governing their list management? Why not just have an expanded list and be done with it?
