Thread: Changes for Rnd 13 V Richmond

  1. #13
Rohan for Marsh. I think his pace will be useful on the MCG especially with Cunningham out. He is also a different type of forward option for the Richmond defence to worry about. So they can't just focus on shutting down Reid and Franklin with Papley crumbing. Rohan can lead up mark or use his pace to get behind them.

Though someone on the other forum made the point that picking Marsh gives us flexibility to rotate Jones/Mills/Lloyd/Newman through the midfield more.

I think if there is a change that'll be it. Rohan has great closing speed as well, Hayward is the same.

That would be my only change too

    Daaaaaaaaad!
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I would make 2 changes, pending how the reserves go regarding form and injuries.

    Out: Marsh and Sinclair
    In: Rohan and Aliir

Marsh played as expected and wasn't bad at all. Aliir just offers so much more. We also wouldn't have to drop Reid back into defence late in quarters to preserve the score line. Rohan should be an important player for us and needs to play as much as possible. He's another dangerous forward option that takes pressure off Buddy and Reid.

Although Sinkers has been okay, it's been just okay. He still can take a mark and this year his goal kicking is badly down. He really offers nothing that Naismith can't do by himself. It's like playing one man down. It's one spot occupied by 2 men. Aliir and Reid can cover as 2nd ruck. Richmond use Grigg as their 2nd ruck, so it hardly matters.
I can't have Rohan coming in for Marsh. Marsh was good last night and Rohan is a dunce playing backline. How many chances does Rohan get. Back to the 2's for a few games to get some touch and game consistency as he hasn't played a lot of footy. Harry gets a bad rap, yet he has hardly played a bad game.

I would have Aliir replacing Marsh. I agree that Harry is playing well and really deserves as spot in the side, but Aliir simply offers more, both in defence and versatility.

Rohan would replace Sinclair, providing more pressure and scoring power. We only need to go up against Nankervis. How many ruckmen do we need to neutralise him?

What I think will happen is that Rohan will replace Marsh and Sinclair will hold his spot. That's the Longmire way.

There is an interesting scenario where Marsh stays in and Towers is omitted. Newman and Marsh can alternate putting a full court press on Dusty. I wouldn't mind playing Aliir forward as this is a game where Richmond can be exploited for lack of height. Rance will take Buddy all over the ground, then Reid and Aliir can be isolated on Astbury and Grimes. I like those matchups.

Fair point Nico- reckon he should have played in GF last year as he was 100 per cent fit unlike a couple of others. Solid performer who is reasonably quick.

Rohan is never going to be picking up 30 touches a game, but a 15 touch game from Rohan is more than enough. Unfortunately most of the year he has been picking up 6...which I don't get. Undoubtedly he is the pressure/ 1% man, so his efforts aren't going to show up in the stats sheet, but I think he would do better with a role, rather than patrolling the forward line like a chook with it's head cut off. Undoubtedly he has exceptional talent, and has never had a good run at it since he broke his leg.

These sound like excuses, but he has "it".

I can't articulate how best to capture his talent, but I know for sure - the role he is being asked to fulfill isn't it. I would have him as more of a target and acting offensively, where his current role is defensive. He can do it, but in his heart of hearts he is not a defender.

Marsh out and Rohan in is no doubt.

Sinclair is not best 22. Whether Tippett is the answer or Allir or Cameron, I don't know. What I do know is Sinclair won't be dropped this week.
The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.

Feel sorry for Marsh. He hardly puts a foot wrong, he seems a solid defender, but lacks the ability to counter-attack and/or play tall like Rampe and others. He always seems to be first in line to come out of the team.

Does he have the potential to become the next Nick Smith? I think possibly he does

I would be very tempted to go in with no changes. I mean we just played the best game of the season with an intent and game style that would have challenged any team in the comp. I think that deserves to be rewarded and the boys can grow in their confidence knowing they have had faith shown in them. Yes there is the possibility to tinker but morale and team psychology as well as confidende are those intangible quantities that are vital to success. The dogs had it last year and they have lost it at the moment and so With their lack of belief their performances have suffered.

So I reckon build the teama confidence by making no changes ( unless forced by injuries we don't know about)
