Thread: RWO Game Day Thread - Finals Week 2 - September 2-3

    Was bored.

Hypothetically the guys who played prems last week are the best 22 at the club. 9/22 had played only prems all year. 4/22 had played 1 game in div 1 (rest of season in prems). 3/22 had played 2 games in div 1 (rest of season in prems). 1/22 1 game in div 4 (rest of season in prems). 1/22 1 game in u19s (rest of season in prems).

So 19/22 had played whole season, whole season bar 1 game or whole season bar 2 games in prems. Other 3 out of interest had 4 games u19s1 (rest in prems), 5 games in div 1 (rest in prems) and 8 games in div 1 (rest in prems).

I can think of 4 or 5 others who played whole season in prems and didn't get picked/were injured for the game last week.

Maybe that isn't standard, but with the amount of injuries have 4-7 guys coming back through the reserves for a game or two after injury isn't terribly unusual is it? 3 guys fighting their way into a finals team after spending the start of the season elsewhere isn't that unusual either is it?

Like Clubman, you're talking through your knowledge vacuum there Westy - Dragons simply had the worst run of injuries in living memory in seniors, regularly had 10 and 12 unavailable - nothing more to see.

It is a huge wrap for the club that they were still able to qualify all other sides, and the future is looking very strong.

    Don't waste your time saviour.

    As for the ECE "powerhouse", they had a breakout season this year didn't they, especially after 2016, when they had;

    1 from 18 in Div 1,
    0 from 18 in Div 3,
2 from 16 in u/19's ... 3 wins from 52 games ... not sure if that was due to superior coaching, or injuries, or culture, who knows, not for me to speculate!

... lucky they had their "contracted" players to win them a PD Flag ...

Thanks unconfuseme you've managed to confuse me. Wasn't having a dig a St George, just seeking an inside view to their regular team changes week in week out and not just in 2017. Thanks for the commentary though Saviour in all honesty. Another un educated swipe at ECE there unconfuseme, ECE have played in the majority of the last decades Prem div grand finals!! They been taking your clubs spot in the GF have they? Bitter

Does it matter who makes the gf in prems? Surely no one beats uni after that.

Penno have hit form at just the right time of year. For most of the year it looked like they'd miss the five, but they're doing serious damage.
Next week's Prelim should be a cracker. You wouldn't think North Shore would be so flat 2 weeks in a row. But Sydney Uni definately look the team to beat.

I guess it will depend on Uni's "injuries", that Student insists will come to wreck their season ... but if they get to play 7 or so of their NEAFL Listed players and a handful of their NEAFL Rookies in the GF, they will be hard to beat again, and we could well have two tainted SAFL Premierships in two years ... that would be a shame.

"St George seem to be the only club actively NOT trying to win the Premier Div." ... no confusion here Westy, injuries affect every club, even St George. As for ECE, no swipe, just the facts ... if it were not for their contracted NEAFL players last year, they would have been lucky to win 3 games. They were a "powerhouse" before their dalliance with NEAFL, but they have a lot of ground to recover. No doubt they will eventually, due to the strength of local junior football. They never "took the spot" of a Dragons side in a GF in that time ... if you followed the game locally, you would be aware that the Dragons had to earn their spot. They have come from a long way back, after their own issues, and have been focused on building a club and a culture around their local juniors, that will ensure sustainable success. If you do that well, the GF spots and the Flags will come.

You do realize that the listed NEAFL players had played 20 NEAFL games between them this year, and most of those belonged to Matt Rawlinson who won't be eligible for the GF. Irvine, Vella, the Krochmal brothers, Vicic, Sierakowski etc - they are Prem Div players who train with the NEAFL side. They have played four games between them. If we were rolling out Tom Young and Zac O'Brien you would have an argument. Anyway when the NE lists go down to 40 next year we will have the fringe players in a train on squad and they won't be "NEAFL players" so you'll have less to gripe about.

Given you guys got done in the neafl is there anyone else who can come back? im pretty sure north shore will have lonergan, wilson, mantiet back whilst penno will lose cooper and potter.....they do have the form tho penno even before they got potter......very interesting game this week

Good question - according to the by-laws anyone who has played 9 or more NEAFL games won't qualify so that would rule out the three you've mentioned for North Shore. Unless it is 9 regular season games only in which case Manteit would be available.
