No thanks. I'd rather leave the position vacant.

    Sydney Swans 2018 coaching group

    John Longmire Senior Coach
John Blakey Director of Coaching and Head of Development
    Stuart Dew Senior Assistant Coach
Brett Kirk Assistant Coach Midfield & Stoppages
    Rhyce Shaw Assistant Coach Defence
    Steve Johnson Assistant Coach Forwards
    Tadhg Kennelly Development Coach
    Jeremy Laidler Development Coach
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

We need someone pretty heavyweight to replace Stuart Dew, unless Blakey will take that role in the short term?

It's devastated me that Dewy is going, but you just can't hold a good man down.
Watch the Suns turn into superstars. Hope Ablett leaves them to give him half a chance.

Fresh blood was needed but that much makes me nervous given the limited coaching experience of the replacements.

Think we need to recruit a heavyweight (not physically!), potentially level 4 accredited, and tactically very astute coach (or possibly two) to replace Dew.
I'd like to see Gary Ayres at our club in a Snr Asst Coaching role. By all reports he is a very astute game day coach, has AFL senior coaching experience and what he has been able to achieve at the Borough has been outstanding. To get a stand alone VFL club to two premierships and three minor premierships in that time is impressive.

I suspect he's been out of AFL ranks too long to attract interest but you're right - he's been absolutely magnificent at Port Melbourne. 2 premierships and a runners-up since 2011 with a stand alone club playing against teams filled with AFL listed players and the professional resources they've been able to access. Outstanding indeed! Go Borough!

Would be good but big call to relocate at his age I'm guessing.

I know we've lost a lot of coaching experience, but I like the current group of young line coaches in Kirk, Shaw and Johnson. They are all sharp footy minds. We also have a few other guys around the shop like Crouch, Maxfield and Nick Davis. I don't think we are necessarily short a coach even though we lost Stewy Dew.

With experienced coaches like Longmire and Blakey at the helm I don't see a place for a Gary Ayres who has been used to running his own show for a long time.

Considering that looks like an excellent kilo of spuds, you're comment is a bit harsh.......
