I don't mind the doctor and physios being overly cautious. If you look back to 2013, 2015 and even 2014 and 2016 we had injuries to key players at the wrong time. If we are to keep a healthy list it is better to be cautious than bring them back too soon. The other thing we have this year that was missing in most of those years is great, not just good but great, depth.

In the next three weeks, I say three as the most, we get back Pink, Melican, Bell, Brown, Dawson, AJ and Foote. The inclusion of all these players will deepen our depth incredibly. We will be in a very healthy state coming to the bye. After the bye we need to really take advantage of that depth and utilise the players who are ready for seniors by resting senior players one or two at a time to conserve their energy and vitality for a finals run. Everything needs to be systematically and holistically measured rto gain the best outcomes for the club.
Well, yes, but you are making the assumption, that the Moore Park triangle doesn't claim any more victims.

Though of course, if I could work out a way to blame Alastair Clarkson, then I would.

We have 13 listed players in the side and I figure that at least 8 of them could play senior footy. We have up to 7 players that could come back from injury next week. The depth of the side is looking good.

I think we may be looking to get players like Newman, Aliir and O'Riordan into top NEAFL form before bringing one or more into the side, with the view that if they come in they have a serious shot of holding a place in the side.

I'm not saying that we are taking Brisbane lightly, but these next 3 games would be a good time to get some exposure into younger players like McCartin and Stoddart. If they return to the reserves team, which is more likely than not, they have a better idea of what is required to make it at AFL level.

This game was really important because it did two things. Firstly, it highlighted just how seriously good our depth is and secondly it showed just how good the Academy boys are. This year's draft is a bumper draft. The best ever according to the people who are in the know. This Academy crop is the best ever too. The Academy is incredibly strong at the moment. The U18 & U16 are both top or second, Tassie were top in the U18. I think with so many injuries to beat this very strong Lions side is sensational. They had at least 15 players who have played at AFl level. We had 6. So the win was even more impressive.

In the next few weeks we get back 7 players who will fill out our depth the the enth degree. If we stay healthy going into the bye we will come out the other side really strong.

'Good depth been built' can have it's problems as GWS found out.
If good players are not getting a game they will request a trade.
Still a good problem to have.
