You are so wise with 20:20 hindsight. Fact is clubs recruit talent when if is available. Tippett, at the time was an opportunity we couldn’t pass up as we didn’t have a big bodied marquee forward. As if ANY club would turn down Buddy.

Seriously. Your logic also doesn’t have us recruiting Lockett as he delivered about what Buddy has. Coleman’s, all Australian, increased membership and a losing grand final

In; any of those options an Heens of course.

I think Newman could have made a huge difference in the mids tonight. He has abig body and could have taken joey's place. The others could not. Mind you Robbo was really good. Towers had not played in two weeks as he did not start in the reserves last week. It was silly to give him a game after two weeks off. His game was definitely off.

but there is a bigger problem. that of the game plan. To bomb it constantly to Tommy and Lance is @@@@ing stupid. You need to hit targets up. We played most of tonight with 17 players on the field as Hannas was just a disgrace. It was so obvious he is hampered. Get him @@@@ing fit you bastards. give him a rest.
We couldn't hit targets in the midfield so I don't know how it was going to happen up forward. Tom took 3 of his 4 marks outside 50. We don't have people at the fall of the ball up forward. Where was Hayward? We can be Buddy centric if we have players in support. We are so slow to move it forward.

Wasn’t Buddy out when Ronke kicked 7?

Well that was a wasted night watching two teams that won't do any damage come finals.

Tippett had never done enough to justify the huge contract, that wasnt 20:20 hindsight. Buddy's contract was fine, when we signed him we should have done whatever it took to get rid of Tippett, I never said don't sign Buddy my point was carrying both contracts has been detrimental to the development of the squad, in no way do I resile from the position.

You should never gamble the farm on a one season wonder, all the other players you refer had consistent success and were worth the mega bucks, Tippett hadn't done enough to earn it.

BTW I am criticizing the fact we took on 2 huge contracts. We should have looked at offloading Tippett as soon as we signed Buddy, even if we had to pay some of his salary, Tippett never lived up to the contract from the start.
But you seem to be missing the fact that the club weren't to know Buddy was coming to them when they went for Tippett, who at the time was the best available forward and who at that stage of his career, looked to have a huge upside. Then Buddy arrives after the fact saying "I want to play here". As was said earlier, were we to then say to him, "sorry....Tip will do, can't fit you in..."? As if......look, it hasn't worked out (yet).....get over it.

There is a whole thread where you can argue to your hearts content about Tippo… it needs a good spark, go provide it.

Exactly my feeling GS. We were crap and geelong, while generating plenty of scoring shots, weren't a whole lot better. Both cannon fodder imho at this point in time

If you judged success solely by premierships this century, gee there are a huge number of failing clubs. Finished top of the ladder in 2014 and made GF in 2016 only to play game on home ground or in home city of opponent despite finishing higher. I assume you're not an old South supporter. For the last 20 odd years, we have been spoiled compared to many other supporters.

We had only just re-signed players like Hanners, Parker & Jack (in the peak of their powers at the time) and needed cap space for players Like Heeney & Mills who had significant up side. Mitchell’s contract came up at the wrong time. It happens. Move on

It doesn't look good I'll admit, GS, but we could get a roll on later in the year and we have always been good as underdogs.

How do you get rid of a player who is under contract?

By offering to pay part of their contract, i have no doubt there would have been takers.
