I was wondering if/when they'd unleash Blakey. I think there's a week or two before he joins the rest of the Allies squad to prepare for the Division One U18 championships.

Plenty of U17s get an early exposure to NEAFL (including Mills, who played a lot of games as an U17 and was highly influential, even at that age) so it's probably just down to Blakey's back injury in the second half of last year that we've had to wait this long.

I think we'll get a much better idea of what kind of player he might become (position wise) watching him play at NEAFL level - not necessarily on first outing - than was possible at U18 level. The most draftable academy prospects have tended to find their feet and look comfortable pretty quickly at NEAFL level.

Awesome to see Blakey get a game - shame it appears NEAFL aren't going to be streaming the game, as we can't make it up the highway this weekend

The NEAFL's live stream partners BarTVSports said they might get a replay up.

That would be brilliant if it happens!

Ugg do you know if Tipungwuti an academy drafting option? Never heard about him until last week and looks like a very classy pure goal sneak which is something we could use on list with a view of both Papley and Ronke spending more time through the midfield in the years ahead.

Also I would assume he's available to be drafted this year?

    NEAFL 2018 Round 7

Sydney Swans Reserves v Southport Sharks @ Sydney Cricket Ground

    Saturday 19th May 2018
    3:45pm
    Sydney Cricket Ground

It's been an amazing turnaround by the Southport Sharks in 2018. Coach Nathan Bock resigned after a relatively unsuccessful 3 year stint at the Sharks, making the finals only once and failing to finish with more wins than losses in each of those 3 seasons. Add to that the loss of 2017 NEAFL MVP winner Jordan Keras to the Geelong VFL team, and there wouldn't have been many NEAFL pundits that would have predicted that the Sharks would be sitting pretty on top of the NEAFL ladder after 6 rounds. With their 5 wins so far in 2018, they have already eclipsed the 4 win total in 2017.

They recruited former Gold Coast NEAFL coach Stephen Daniel to take the helm, and along with some smart recruiting of former Saint Brodie Murdoch, former Lion Josh Clayton and former Magpie Michael Manteit the Sharks have been very impressive in the first 5 rounds, with their only loss coming against the unbeaten Sydney Uni team. They will be confident of breaking their NEAFL duck against the Swans, having lost all 3 previous meetings.

The Swans broke a duck of their own last week, lifting themselves off the bottom of the NEAFL ladder with a strong victory over a depleted Giants outfit. With 4 more listed players coming back in this week along with a host of top Academy players, the Swans look a much stronger team than the one that lost the first 4 matches of the season.

    Changes
    In: Fox, Robinson, Rose, Towers
    Out: Jake BROWN (shoulder)

Rose returns from suspension/injury. Fox returns from senior emergency duties.

It will be Towers's first NEAFL game in more than a year.

One of the 4 senior emergencies is likely to be rested for the full game, my money is on Stoddart.

The 4 ins can all play midfield at this level, and will be a much needed boost. Players such as O'Riordan and Marsh can then return to their more natural positions in defence.

One of the first changes that the new coach has implemented has been to ignore the traditional tall forward structure and follow the Richmond model of a group of small, fast players who apply pressure. It has paid dividends so far with small forwards Mitchell Johnson and Wade Hancock kikcing 23 goals (2nd in the NEAFL) and 15 goals (5th) respectively. Johnson kicked 8 in the last round but has been suspended for this match.

Former Bombers ruckman Fraser Thurlow will be Darcy Cameron's main opponent of the day. Paul Roos recently described Thurlow as a bash-and-crash ruckman who should still be on an AFL list. He has provided great service to Andrew Boston and Josh Clayton who are currently #1 and #2 in the NEAFL MVP voting. Boston on 40 votes is 11 clear of Clayton. The former Gold Coast midfielder is the NEAFL's premier inside midfielder leading the competition with 9.7 clearances a game amongst his 28.2 dispo

In the back half, Tyler Roos is an attacking defender in the mould of his father. Averaging an impressive 26.5 disposals a game and a team high 3.8 rebound 50s a game, he has been named in their best players' list in 3 of their 6 matches.

Being that he's never been part of our Academy I'm going to say no. If you Google him, there's a few articles on him being part of the Lions Academy.

Very strong team. Hope we can grab the win and start to generate some momentum. Weakest part of the ground is forward. Will be interesting to see if Blakey can bolster us there.

Is Tyler Roos overage? If not, what is he doing playing for Southport?

Yes, hes overage. Either he or his brother was a draft contemporary of Heeney, and Dylan is the older of the two.
