One of my favourite Swans. Very educated and well spoken. Makes good music too. Was sad to see him go

Fantastic article by a thoughtful, articulate man. Wonderful photo of an amazing athlete. Disgusting comments by trolls. Depressing. But the BTL comments on Brandon’s article are nearly all very positive.

    Go Tayla, go!!

I thought it was a good article by Brandon too. Glad to see he's making an impact in the media now that he has moved on from AFL footy.

Brilliant image. Good on Tayla for speaking up for herself. I have no idea what the offending comments that amounted to "sexual abuse" were but I can begin to imagine.

People are having to become a lot more accountable for what they say these days. I think it is a good thing that sexist, racist, bigoted comments are not being allowed to pass. At the same time I generally prefer to hear critics articulate the problem they have with another's comment rather than simply say the other should never have said it/not be allowed to say it. I prefer debate to censorship (although selectiveness in republishing - whether on social media, mass media or elsewhere - is not the same as censorship - you are not denying the other's right to speak, you are simply not giving them a platform to stand on).

Should this thread be on the AFLW board? If all the debate happens here nobody ever visits the women's footy threads.

What a great piece of writing. And as for Tayla: what an amazing image. Her response to the trolls was brilliant: "Here’s a pic of me at work... think about this before your derogatory comments, animals."

My 11 year old daughter plays AFL, for the Willoughby Wildcats. She is a sweet kick, and getting confident putting her body into contests. Yesterday she got her guernsey for the season: number 3, so we talked about Macca on the way home. She wants to play CHF.

I am so happy to live at a time when she can see women like Tayla, when she can turn on the tv and see women playing outstanding soccer and cricket (she's mad about cricket too—I had my first net session with her last week).

My daughter's only disappointment is that the GWS women come to train with them. Last year she actually turned her back on them, because THEY'RE NOT SWANS.

Anyway, I am proud of her, of Tayla, and of the lot of them.

Roll on Saturday night. Swans by 21.

I don't know what has been said but can only assume what the comments referred to. Very poor by those people if they said that. We see several images every week of AFL players kicking the ball, even more revealing than this image, and no one batters an eyelids. I'm not a fan of AFLW but the image of an attractive and powerful female athlete is something to be impressed about, not critical of.

BTW, is B Jack writing articles on a regular bass or is this a one off?

He has written a few recent pieces on similar themes:

The right way to look at Tayla's photo - comparing it to a very similar one of an AFL Legend!
