Yes, and while I am joking, the science suggests that if Brad turned up as Chris, then most people probably wouldn't notice.

And the existence of attentional blindness, suggests that most of us should chill out a bit more, when watching games. That is, Aussie Rules probably challenges a player's attentional skills more than any other game. I don't think there's another game, where the opposition can attack from such a wide range of angles. Nor is there a game where a player has to track so much movement. So, when we yell at the TV, because of clangers and players missing targets; we should keep in mind, that most of the player's attention was probably elsewhere. That is, the first focus of the player may be gathering the strangely bouncing ball, while trying to avoid the ninety kilogram ball of muscle bearing down on him. Once in control of the ball, he then has to select on a target, while most of their attention is still on taking evasive action. He then has to get the pass away, while his attention is now taken by the hundred kilo brute suddenly closing from behind. Meanwhile at home, we scream about how the cretin missed the obvious target, who was twenty metres in the clear and with a clear passage to goal: a target that we picked out, despite the demands of reaching for a beer, but in reality, probably never even entered the player's conscious awareness.

Brad Scott will be coaching again soon. Lolnorf have had an ordinary list for a decade and he has done wonders to make it competitive.

I wonder if Max Gawn would like a change of scenery. He doesn't appear to be having much fun today.

Gawn would be a tasty prospect! Make it happen recruiting team.

He is the type of player who may chase a premiership elsewhere if Melbourne don't improve.

This must be heartbreaking for Paddy McCartin and his family. It is so concerning for both his immediate and long-term health and quality of life.

“ST KILDA key forward Paddy McCartin has detailed the extent of his lingering concussion symptoms and the grave concern for his wellbeing in a remarkably raw interview.

The No.1 pick in the 2014 draft sustained the eighth concussion in his AFL career in a JLT Community Series match against the Western Bulldogs in March.

McCartin still struggles to perform day-to-day activities such as going to the supermarket or a café and driving a car, and is unable to physically exert himself beyond being on an exercise bike.”

Following consultation with his doctors and specialists, Paddy McCartin has been placed on St Kilda's long-term injury list 'Shell of a person': Saint's heartbreaking admission on concussion battle - AFL.com.au

Absolutely. I heard him being interviewed on the radio. Surely he needs to never play the game again.

Thought a closed fist is a punch?? Maybe a bit of sacarism! He has to get a week. Just a side note. Jude Bolton said the morning the Swans have the best group of young players in the league and it will just be a waiting game for supporters before success comes. Some people may say he is bias, but personally I have found him to be a very good judge.

I was wondering the same thing. Apparently it would have clashed with the Crows jumper so they wore it last week.

AFL Round 10 weekly discussion thread

Heartbreaking loss for Brisbane by one point, kicked by Michael Walters after the siren. The Lions were 10 points up with 5 minutes to go but seemed to have run out of legs. Their defenders were under siege for the remaining time.

Yes, from that, it seems that Paddy already has had enough concussions and it's probably reached the stage that full recovery is unlikely. Therefore, it seems that the most sensible option is retirement, as there is a strong chance that more football, will inflict further cumulative damage on a brain that appears not to have regenerated from previous concussions.

Also, in past concussion discussions, I meant to post this handy summary, but I never quite got around to it. For those interested, it's a fairly easy read, starting with 'What Is Concussion' and then going through various aspects of concussion (when you click on the links).

Along similar lines, this gives a good description of how concussions can develop into the more problematic Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy.

I only saw most of the first quarter and most of the last. Charlie Cameron was excellent in the first. Hill and Wilson were excellent in the last.
