How does Sydney Stadium drama affect Swans?

Lot of news and discussion about ANZ and Allianz and their renovation.
Does anyone know how any of this impacts the Swans? Will they be making any other changes to the SCG?

Doubt it. There won't be any money left.

If they're shutting down the other guy and we're able to stay open then I guess that means we're officially a casino!
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

When the discussion of new stadia, renovations etc. started, the SCG Trust said that the work would included "the completion of the SCG master plan which includes the replacement of the Bill O'Reilly and Clive Churchill/Brewongle stands as well as the ongoing rejuvenation of the Members and Ladies pavilions".

But there is no mention of that in a statement put out by Tony Shepherd today. In fact the statement doesn't really say anything definitive. So it's not clear if the finalisation of the SCG renovation is still in the plans.

There's one possible implication and that could be increased use of the SCG for the bum sniffers and round ballers.

Easts and the Tahs, were they be given a rent holiday, could be cheaply bought off to play their games at the SCG. Sydney FC less so as the SCG would be a terrible venue for soccer

I would think any SCG developments would be largely unaffected.

How many spectators can fit into North Sydney Oval?
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I think any upgrades to oval grounds are on hold for 10 years.
The AFL will go from 3 venues in sydney to 2 (SCG and skoda). I wonder what the giants or thunder will do when they outgrow skoda. You would think they would need a bigger stadium to be viable.

    Go to Canberra!!!
Just joking. What is the capacity at Manuka?

There was a full page story (Page 2) in the Liverpool Leader this week drumming up support for the Giants. Before they were in the competition the Swans rated a couple of lines at the back of the paper.

    Manuka is even smaller.

Showgrounds had 25000 capacity. I've been there for a 21k crowd and there wasn't much room. Would the AFL or bigbash host finals there??.

It could probably be expanded up to 30,000 pretty cheaply by putting a proper stand at the scoreboard end.

I wonder what the long term plan the AFL has?

There are already four stadiums (five if you count Parramatta) in Sydney. All this talk of building another is mind boggling. Or even spending $700M to make ANZ "better".
Is it really bad? It's only 17 years old and needs a major overhaul already apparently. I can understand spending a few bucks on Allianz, it really is pretty average, but then again
maybe the Waratahs/Roosters/Sydney FC supporters should man up for the whole two hours they spend there every second or third week. Isn't the government meant to be going
broke? Where did all this money come from? Maybe they should build a few dozen extra schools instead. I've been to lots of stadiums overseas over the years. Some are better than ours,
and some are not. It really doesn't matter. You just need to shell out for the good seats, and hope your team wins. You know, try and have a good time. It's a game.

Tell me more about these bum sniffers. Or did you just forget how to write "faggot"?

While I can see how the term might be offensive to some, "Bum Sniffers" has been used for a long time to describe rugby players (union mainly) because of the game's scrum set plays where players link in a row of three, two and a lock (one) at the back (and a further two tucked in the sides) before bending over and sticking their heads through the gaps of the row in front of them with shoulders resting on the buttocks to push.

Has never been used in a homophobic context in any form or manner AFAIK.
