Having a last game for Macca and Kieran, as well as the occasion of Buddy’s 300th , makes this Round 23 game potentially such a wonderful occasion with great and exciting expectation of the seasons ahead.

It may remind us of the last 2 occasions when the Swans finished their season in a Home and Away game-

In 2002 against Richmond at the Olympic Stadium we farewelled Paul Kelly and Andrew Dunkley. It was the end of one era and the beginning of another. Paul Roos was signed on as a permanent coach a few weeks later, and we drafted a couple of teenagers who became Premiership players-Macca and Nick Melchelski. The next year we hosted a Preliminary Final. Three years later we won the flag.

In 2009 against Brisbane at the SCG we farewelled Micky O, Brett Kirk and Leo Barry. That spring we welcomed Lewis Jetta and Gary Rohan in the draft, as well as Josh Kennedy and Ben McGylnn in the trade, all 2012 players in our Flag year. The next year we hosted and won a finals game (against Carlton). Three years later we won flag.

Well said Top40. We can learn a lot from looking back. Hopefully we recruit well in the next couple of years and have another crack at it.

Great post- we also got Mummy with Mcglynn and Kennedy. He was huge for us.

I personally wouldn't risk Buddy this weekend. Besides, the AFL could make Round 1 versus the Hawks for his 300th, which would be an amazing spectacle.

If you hate Hawthorn who are a bunch of sniping cheats, why give them a full house with Buddy's 300th.

And how many of their fans would spend the day booing Buddy?

Let's hope the SCG Trust keeps their word that they are confident they can have the SCG ready for Round 1 as there is a ODI on Sunday 15 March which makes a very tight turnaround for Round 1 if Buddy doesn't play this weekend and get it out of the way.

I wouldn't be sad of Buddy doesn't get up for this one, but if he's ready to play, he should play.

Why is everyone saying that if his 300th in round 1 next year that it should be against the Hawks anyway? I'd strongly prefer that it wasn't.

If it was at the SCG how is booing relevant?

Buddy was integral to the Hawks success for 2008 & 2013. If there are some fans that want to boo so be it, but I bet the majority of Hawks fans would be pretty stoked if the R1 Fixture was against Buddy for his 300th.
