So for the people that understand the points system for academy picks, if you are to take the draft scenario above and then do what people here have been saying (ie take a "gun" with our pick two ), what happens if then say one of the teams from say 3-8 bids on Campbell . Would we have enough points in our remaining picks to match that bid ?
Assume then after matching that bid , someone else makes a bid for Gulden at say pick 30. Do we then have any ability to match that ?
It seems from what I can see that unless we were seeking to trade out future draft picks , we would be struggling to match for campbell and gulden in that scenario.
First year for ages (ever?) that GWS do not have a 1st round pick

Bid 30 is 629 points, so we would go into deficit for next year, if we had use our picks one and two on other players.
But i think the plan is to use our first pick on another midfielder, and then wait for a bid for Campbell.
At the moment our three other picks, 21, 53 & 56 will add up 1305.
So if a bid for Campbell comes after pick 11 we could cover Campbell but not Gulden.
Or course this will depend on trading and teams winning or losing games, and our willingness to go into deficit.

So if we take another with Pick 2 , on current points we could only match Campbell if he was taken after pick 11 and it would seem we were no chance of Gulden . Suggests they will just take these two unless a good deal can be done for Papley with picks to add more points .
How much deficit can you go into?
From my reading of the situation, the deficit limit is set at 1723 points (the equivalent of the first four picks assigned to the premier side each year, 18, 36, 54 and 72).
I didn't include the discount of 20% in my figures, sorry.
But even then we would need a bid after pick seven to not use up all our 1305 from our other picks.
But remember, we only get a 20% discount when matching bids. We don't get that discount when using own selections.
Round One 20% discount
