Tom Papley - reason to ask for trade

Interesting article on Tom and hopefully end future speculation.

Very interesting context, given a lot of the speculation was around his girlfriend.

And good on him for speaking about it.
'Delicious' is a fun word to say

Thanks for sharing Sprite. I agree that knowing Papley's context creates a different perspective to the spin that was original cast by media at the time.

Thanks for the heads-up on this, sprite; it makes for interesting reflection on the way we can get caught up in media misinformation. Good to read that there's been an alleviation of the difficulties Tom was trying to address in requesting a move back to Victoria.

I can see why the club wanted to respect his privacy at the time.

Yes this does give more insight into Tom’s frame of mind last year when he requested the trade.

But don’t forget his manager was the one who told a journalist that Tom wasn’t happy in Sydney, hadn’t fitted in well with his housemate (another Swans’ player, that must have done wonders for team bonds) and generally implied the Swans as a club didn’t suit Tom.

A totally unnecessary briefing even had it been true. But as it seems it wasn’t then it was actually quite nasty.

Great point. No knock on Tom, but some of these managers have a bit to answer for when they throw out that type of stuff to put pressure on the club via the media. They’re just chasing a bigger commission at the end of the day.

It's the player manager list sizes and salaries which need to be cut. That would solve a lot of the AFL's financial problems.
