I feel lucky we have you, Ludwig. Your individuality enriches us. I'm sorry you're feeling unappreciated because I think overwhelmingly your contributions are highly valued on RWO. Especially your brilliant and sometimes edgy humour.
I guess if you're going to risk being interesting you have to live with the fact it won't suit all the people all the time - and if it did, you wouldn't be interesting!
Thanks for your positive feedback. The issue is not about me and whether I'm appreciated or not. In fact, I'm not feeling unappreciated.
It's that I don't think it's a bit deal if we get off topic sometimes and we get into a verbal battle about something not directly related to the footy subject at hand. We usually work it out amongst ourselves and it just burns itself out in due course. I don't think we should restrict what can be posted, within reasonable limits. If it gets too abusive or goes on too long, then okay, shut it down.
Maybe some of us that are active posters should take some responsibility for keeping things from getting out of hand so the burden doesn't fall on liz to be the disciplinarian. As one of the 'off topic' offenders, perhaps I should take some responsibility in saying 'enough is enough' when it's getting out of control. The best solution would be if we could self-regulate within the general framework of allowing free expression.
I'm happy with the job the mods do. It's not a straightforward task, I wouldn't want to do it, and they are just volunteering and I respect their role to call it as best they can.
I don't mind a bit of off topic stuff but I don't feel like liz or the other mods are unduly heavy handed in applying the guidelines - they give us some latitude. While I can see for us regular posters that RWO is a bit of a community and it's nice to be able to converse about other stuff, I imagine many readers and posters come less frequently and primarily want a footy focus. If the chat becomes too discursive they may leave RWO.
Reining ourselves in is a great idea. Policing each other I favour less. I can just imagine arguments along the lines of "you started it", "that's rich coming from you", "I'll just get the last word in and then we should all stop talking about this" etc.

I was just posting about Paddy McCartin in the Best 22 thread and had some further thoughts that better belong in this thread:
Speaking of Paddy, I'm wondering whether there is any chance we will pick him up in the SSP. Hopefully by the closing date (9 March?) he will have been training with us long enough to have a bit more of an idea whether it is a worthwhile gamble. If he's even a reasonable chance of returning to AFL level there seem to be benefits to signing him now. These include:
* if we wait until the mid season draft and he's flying then Adelaide and NMFC would be able to snap him up before us (as far as I know we don't get any priority just because he's playing for our reserves - if anyone knows otherwise please correct me - it would be good to know for sure);
* if we wait until the mid season draft then we will probably have to burn our pick 3 which could otherwise be used on an additional promising prospect (I realise we currently only have one list spot available but almost certainly there will be someone we can move to the long term injury list to create a spot by the time of the mid-season draft);
* in the unlikely event Paddy gets it together quickly, we could play him at AFL level before mid-season. If we have more KPP injuries (like last year), that could be important.
Conversely, the main downside to signing him now is that we will chew up a bit of cap space - but it won't be much because it seems he'll be on bottom dollar - and that list spot. So far we have held our nerve and risked the possibility of other clubs signing him before us and it hasn't blown up in our face. I hope we continue to get this right. I imagine we also have the inside running in terms of having the best intel about how he is tracking and also because the whole McCartin family (not just Tom) seem pretty enamoured of the Swans as a club and how we go about our business.

Paddy Mc, we'll make the correct decision following medical advice from specialists and the AFL, the latter needs to clear him to play I believe.
Having pick 3 in the Mid Season Draft is a bonus, sure to be some real talent available.
I thought MSD was based on our ladder position at the time. And 2020 has no bearing on it.

Wonder what the thought processes were when we recruited Taylor and Grey.

Based on previous year as the current season would only be partially completed and a team could have had an easy/hard draw to start the season. Like three years ago, Norf won their first 10 games against all the weakest sides and were top, won two more for the year against the better sides and missed the eight.
Offset possible loss of Papley and balance young list; didn't need both and neither up to it. Not our best moves.
beggars, choosers. There wasn't much on offer for the salary cap space we had. I thought Taylor showed a bit, on occasion, last year. But yes, Papley's 'return' to the fold, the potential shift of Heeney to a forward role, and the emergence of alternatives (including, I am hoping, Hayward's resurgence on the evidence of what we've seen of match sims, as well as Wicks) all don't augur well for either Grey or Taylor's chances of grabbing and holding onto a place in the team.
