    That’s really cool. They run their junior skills sessions there too for junior club members and kids from South Melbourne Districts (although I’m not sure if that happened this year - and certainly not last year).

    The dual aspect of our identity is writ large. It is present on our guernsey, in our colours, within our club song and in the stands of the SCG.
    Great post!

    It's also great news that our heritage guernsey is going to be worn again this weekend as well as for all remaining away games in 2021. Long may that continue! I love the red V even though I, like a number of other supporters started following the Swans after their relocation to Sydney. There's room in this supporter's heart for all of the South Melbourne / Sydney Swans / Bloods' history.

    I was really pleased to read this. I'm from Sydney, now in Canberra, but am proud of the club's South Melbourne history and am impressed by the club's respect for that history.

    As an aside, I often yell out “go you blood-stained angels” at the game or “carn the Bloods”, but just as often “carn the Swanners” and if someone asks who I barrack for I invariably say “the Swans”.

    I might also join in either a “Syd-ney” or a “Syyyyddney” chant but only in the last 20 years (it took a while to get to this point), but for whatever reason I never say “swannies”.

    Occasionally, I might yell out “go South” if I am feeling a bit cheeky - and joining in with the “South Melbourne” chant was quite fun on the weekend.

    However, my kids are just as likely to say they go for “Sydney” as the “Swans”.
    Me too, on all of this! But "Go South" feels particularly good.
    My opinion is objective truth in its purest form

    Even I like barracking for South, and I have no connection to Melbourne.

    I have a non footy following friend who moved to Melbourne. She is asked from time to time who she goes for. She used to say Swans but apparently this answer was not acceptable and she was told to pick a Mexican team. I counselled her to answer "South". I have made similar suggestions to others. Just try and tell me I can't barracking for the Bloods!

    As an old South supporter my heart says YES but my head says NO because the "Swans" name has been so long entrenched with the club. The name "Sydney Swans" having that synergy which just rolls of the tongue. Plus the club has just spent sqillion$ on the new Swans logo & the Opera House silhouette jumper design better represents the city from a marketing point of view, even though i think the red V is more of a footy jumper.

    Nevertheless curious to see end result of the poll just for fun, knowing result is not going to make any impact.
    With the season over and most of in lockdown, I thought this might be the perfect time to post.

    As someone who started following the Swans in the mid 80s, I always preferred the white back of the guernsey and wasn’t real happy when the red back was introduced. It was a pleasure to see the heritage guernsey worn so often this year. Based on our history and the fact that V for victory is in our club song, I would like the club to incorporate the Opera house silhouette into the heritage guernsey. Below I have mock-up a kit and would appreciate views from others?

    Thinking outside the box!

    But personally I prefer to just have:

    • our traditional red V jumper (no Opera House) as our away jumper (maybe for all matches in Melbourne as a tribute to our South Melbourne heritage?);

    • our normal Opera House jumper with the red back for home games;

    • our clash jumper (Opera House front, white back) for away games outside of Melbourne;

    • and a Heritage Round jumper (red sash, red hoops, white SMFC on a red jumper - not the red V) - for a designated heritage round match (perhaps against one of the founding VFL clubs once a season? or for milestone years commemorating South premierships of 1909/1918 wearing the jumper we wore during those premierships of yesteryear

    And perhaps, against GW$, for our home game against them (so we can choose the jumper we want to wear), resurrect the jumper we wore when we played South Fremantle in 1979 in the Escort Championship (a confusing game for South Melbourne supporters!!) - they can wear their puke grey clash one!

    I'm starting to get the impression more Sydney based supporters have warmed to the traditional Red V jumper & it's history than ever before. The Red V was last worn as the official guernesy in 1986. Design was changed to reflect it's new Sydney base & not give new supporters impression this is a transplanted team from Melbourne. Much has changed since then. I starting to think if the club were to revert back to the RED V guersney on a permanent basis, the positive responses would far outweigh the negative. This is because i think the love of our club has evolved into something more deeper, than just whether jumper contains a Sydney emblem which reflects the city. I think the club may have been surprised with the response RED V had received this year (we didn't lose a game playing in it!).

    If i can be cheeky to suggest the Opera House design can be worn for future heritage rounds!

    Can’t count me in those number KSAS, I’m an Adelaide based Victorian who supports the Sydney Swans since they were South Melbourne.

    I actually love the current jumper and nearly all the old jumpers. Heritage jumpers make my heart swell with pride and joy. I’ve spent far too much money on my jumper collection … and still I feel I haven’t spent enough!
