You see how little value teams like norf are to the comp. They spent years trying to build a fan base on the Gold Coast, and today playing a big club that goes there 1 every 2 years or so, that big club draws far bigger crowd.
Its not a even 18 clubs contributing, it's 5 or 6 with all the value, and the rest very minor players.

No, and other competitions have ways of purging those teams which arent adding value.
In european soccer, its a relegation system back to minor leagues.
In US sports, its owners moving teams to more lucrative markets, and going all-in, in the new area.
I cant understand why the AFL doesnt do either of those. The impact to the competition would be at worst minor, and at best (if relocation worked out) a net benefit.
Its all nostalgia for the old VFL comp, that keeps them in. It doesnt make business sense.

Yep, and the AFL actually did something. They committed all-in to the Sydney market, and they have reaped the rewards ever since.
