What a fantastic day it is to see Bobby Skilton elevated to Legend status.
Not only a magnificent player but an incredibly terrific person.
I will always remember meeting him with great affection and feel blessed for the time he gave to help other people

The “Chimp” was the Champ- we were blessed to see him play. Unfortunately the team mainly struggled during his time and our Administration was quite poor back then, resulting in our precarious financial position. But they did pull off an unbelievable trade with Patula going to the Tigers with us getting Teaser, Francis and the Whale. What a trade! But back to Skilts: love you forever❤️

The most one sided trade in the history of the VFL/AFL!

Pitura was just ok for Richmond. Teasdale won a Brownlow with us, Whale Roberts nearly won a Brownlow with us and Francis Jackson played over 100 fantastic games for us!

Pitura moved to Richmond in 1975 but started with us in 1969 which meant that he had the privilege of playing with Bobby for a few seasons before Skilts retired at the end of 1971.

Although two years later that administration was responsible for an arguably more disastrously consequential trade when they sent Terry Daniher to Essendon in exchange for Neville Fields. Roberts, Teasdale, and Jackson were all fine players, but Daniher was a player you could build a team around. Even from his early games with South, it was obvious that Daniher was destined for greatness.

Yes. Fields was fairly good for us but only for a relatively short time. We were well and truly on the wrong end of that trade! Didn't we give Essendon Neale Daniher as well? Or am I getting my Daniher brothers mixed up?

A great champion of the game Bobby. I only saw his last game live. Courageous and obviously so skillful - maybe the first player to kick with both feet? Drop kicks with both feet!

My Dad told me about a game where Skilts got knocked out/carried off just before half time. He came back on after 1/2 time and kicked 8 goals.

And yes Sandridge we lost Terry and Neale at the same time. I know this is true as I have spoken to Terry about it.
