Malcolm Blight to coach the Swans.

Malcolm Blight is a very high achieving person in football both as a coach and as player.

He was an attacking forward as a player, and like most ex-forward /coaches he has an attacking game style as a coach.

He has been critisiced for his antics at Saint Kilda, but what has not been realised is that most of these antics he was already carrying on with while he won his two flags at Adelaide and also when he took geelong to several GF appearances. So although the Sainters could not deal with it, he may well in fact have still been a very very very good coach for them, if they had not sacked him.

I think Malcolm would be an excellent coach for the Swans. He would really shake the place up a bit, he always has had innovative and exciting ideas as a coach, I think he could get us a flag, I don't think Roosy can.

Plus we could get him cheap if we put him on a performance based contract - nothing for finals appearance, but 2 million for winning a flag !!

Malcolm Blight for head coach at the Swans - Sack Roos!!!

I'd love to see Blight coach the Swans but it's not going to happen for at least a couple of seasons at the earliest.

I think you should have titled this thread "Malcolm Blight should coach the Swans".

The writing is on the Wall, the damage being done single handedly by the Roos created - "most boring brand of football ever", is doing more to turn away fans and viewers in Sydney than anything in the last 20 years.
On top of that we can not win a Grand Final through this means, and the kids don't get a proper run so there is nothing to look forward to.

If Collese knows anything, he should know that this current situation is truly a crisis.
The perfect answer to the crisis is :

    MALCOLM BLIGHT !!!!

Roos always said he would get out of the way for a more senior/decorated coach, so... face can be saved for all parties, and footy deosn't go down the drain in sydney.

Seriously right now 20 years of good work is being p***ed away.

Paul Ross is the anti- christ!!!

Malcolm Blight could be the second comming !!! (Plugger was the 1st)

I haven't read tripe like this since Rebecca Wilson bust onto the gossip scene.

Blighty has not got the energy to shake up a spray paint can let alone a footy club.

And who is Richard Collese? A Sicilian administrator I have never heard of?

Roos the anti-christ? That is just plain wrong on so many levels. 2 Years ago, he was the Messiah???

No he wasn't, if he was the Messiah then he would have risen the Swans from the dead, but all he has done is make them even more dead.

How do you know Blighty has no energy, (just because he speaks quitly ???)
The guy only weighs about 4 kgs more than his playing weight, he can still kick a footy better than just about any player in the league, and he has about 6 Grand final 10 rand final appearances to his name and at least 3 flags to his name as coach and player.

As such he is more than qualified to coach the Swans.... far far far more qualified than Paul the wrecker Roos !!!

Why don't you go the whole hog Footyhead & merge the Swans & the Saints?

Roos clearly deserves to be punished for taking us to consecutive finals appearances. Blight was marvelous 7 years ago. A perfect formula for success.

Anybody who says anything bad againts blight is taking Saint kildas word over the word of history-

Very Sad. Blight is a stand out to rival Lethal, I believe he will coach again and I realy hope it is with the Swans, and I hope it is sooner rather than later, because paul Roos is destroying the game!!

When Nigel Smart retired, he was aked about Malcolm, and St Kilda's need to sign him up. Nigel went on to say that ALL parties at Adelaide knew that Mal was intensely and in some ways irrepairably burned out.

St Kilda's primary interest in Blight centred around the glorious times, back to back flags and all that nonsense. They failed to ask about his final year and the characteristics he was displaying at that time. History shows that that was probably one question Butters should have focussed on-they didn't and look what happened.

Yep, Blight is a football genius. And if there's one thing we know about genius-"It must be allowed its eccentricities!".

Yep, the team may be playing crap football at the moment. The coach is spouting the same unaccountable drivel each week. The AFL AND the media are having a great time at our expense.

But, please, don't start scouring Gold Coast golf courses and funny farms for our next coach. Blight's much touted "return" to CH 10 commentary seems to be on more of a courtesy basis at the moment (obviously didn't impress anyone). Unless he starts ECT soon, I wouldn't expect him to be in charge of anything more impressive than a golf buggy or a BBQ.

The man's a genuine nutter! Respect Mal-loved your work when your work was good!

I said to my friends at the time that the populist selection of Paul Roos as coach would come and bite us on the backside.

Clearly it has, and the man that should have had his job is now coaching Richmond, and looks to be doing a pretty good job.

What could have been if Terry Wallace was coach of the Swans?

OK, so you have made it clear several times that you don't want Roos as coach, he is not good for Sydney, Blight would be a far better coach, etc, etc.

By telling us this repeatedly, some people will agree, while some will vehemently disagree. But what can be done?

You are expressing your opinion, to a group, who DO want the Swans to succeed, who DO want them to succeeed in Sydney, and (I hope) DO want the Swans to play a more exciting/entertaining style.

Why do you keep telling us, we must get Blight?
In case of emergency, give beer.

For those who think I'm too hard to buy for,
You obviously don't know where the Beer shop is.

Maybe part of the problem here is consideration of choices. I think Malcolm Blight would be one option (assuming he is not certifiable), but there are others. When is Malthouse's contract up? What about Lee Matthews? Totally left of field...Kevin Sheedy.

Anyway, if the league is serious about making Sydney work, I suspect they will have a say in who gets the job next.

Above and beyond all else, Roos probably has the job for at least another year, even if this year turns out to be a complete screw up (i.e. we finish 8th and get bundled out in the first week).
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.
