AAP report that Swans' coach Paul Roos is poised to blood a third rookie this year if utility Matthew Nicks failed to recover from a back injury in time.

Following the positive debut of Swans rookie James Meiklejohn on Friday night, Sydney coach Paul Roos said another young player may be blooded soon. Meiklejohn, who played in the ruck and defence for a short time, is the second first-gamer the Swans have blooded this year, behind fellow 18-year-old Adam Schneider. "I thought he was terrific," Roos said. "He jumped into White a couple of times.

"It would be ideal to introduce five or six first-gamers over the course of the season.

Roos was optimistic key position backs Craig Bolton (concussion) and Andrew Schauble (back) would be fit for Saturday to help counter Collingwood's tall forward line. At the close of the third quarter against Melbourne, Craig Bolton's head clipped Stuart Maxfield's hip while they were both going for the ball in defence. The impact left Bolton almost motionless before he was carried off on a stretcher.

Maxfield said he did not realise Bolton's concussion was caused by the collision until after the match.

"I didn't look at the replay on the big screen," he said.

Bolton returned to watch the game from the players' race late in the last quarter but he did not take part in Saturday's recovery session. However, Swans doctor Nathan Gibbs said that while Bolton had a "pretty bad concussion" he should play against Collingwood on Saturday. Gibbs also said Andrew Schauble would undergo a fitness test to determine his availability.

Ben Fixter is rated a good chance to play in the seconds this weekend.

Collingwood vice-captain Tarkyn Lockyer is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury, and key defender Shane Wakelin is suspended.
