    Vote 1, Jason

The 2013 Member Election will be the sixth opportunity for members to elect a director.

Traditionally the Board has taken the view that it was not appropriate for it to support or canvas support for a candidate. However, as Jason Ball is offering himself for re-election, the Board feels very strongly that it should indicate to members the importance of retaining Jason on the Sydney Swans Board.

I would vote for Jason in a heart beat. I notice he is on deck at all functions, he is involved, intelligent, forward thinking. We are lucky to have this option.

Should the club really be endorsing a candidate? "As a vegetarian I am utterly opposed to the consumption of meat. Apart from well aged wagyu, who can say no?"
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

You are correct in questioning whether the club should be endorsing a candidate stellation, but Ball has done an awful lot for our club, on and off the field, and done it exceptionally competently as well. So I don't feel too unesasy about the club publically stating their support for him to be returned to the board.

Oh look, I understand he's been excellent and he seems like a lovely and capable fellow, to boot- but I still don't think it's appropriate for the club to endorse him (or any candidate).

    Why???

I would have thought it's common sense to endorse the right candidate.

I guess just because if it's an election I believe the candidates should be on a level pegging and should all have equal opportunity to show voters what they can bring to the table. The club obviously takes this view as well as they have stated it's their policy not to endorse a candidate, but in this case have decided to deviate from it. I think it gives him a significant advantage over other potential candidates, his skills and experience should present as a significant fair advantage and really Jason (like all potential candidates) should speak for himself. Every candidate should have equal opportunity to explain why they are the right candidate.

I have no issue with the Swans website being used, I should add, for candidates to speak to potential voters (assuming all candidates have the same opportunity).

I'm not suggesting that it's abnormal for a body to endorse a candidate for election to its board, I just don't like it. It seems a bit boys clubish to me, that's all.
