    Movie 'The Merger'

Just watched the movie The Merger about a small country town and its football club.
Not a classic but enjoyable just the same.
'Bannerman' Danny McGinlay (from the Bulldogs) was in it.

The Great McCarthy was a film about “South Melbourne”. Plenty of old Swans boys in it. Odd at times but a fun film

The book that film was based on - "A Salute to the Great McCarthy" by Barry Oakley - was magnificent. In the book, McCarthy plays for a fictional club but real clubs are mentioned. (Not South.) It's a terrific story that captures the atmosphere and culture of Melbourne and the VFL in the 60s and 70s. Oakley has a style that might not be to everyone's liking but I think anyone who can remember footy in Melbourne from 50 years ago would identify with it and enjoy it. (It has a weird ending, though!)

Currently playing in selected cinemas I believe.

Cheers. Didn't realise it was a new release.

Playing For Keeps ... truly terrible TV show, but is almost redeemed by having the “Southern Jets” training scenes filmed at Lake Oval (Albert Park Lake). Have to wonder if the “Southern” part of the team name is a nod to South Melbourne?

Did anybody else see Warwick Capper in the movie Fortress from 1992? He is there for about 2 seconds in the elevator scene just looking shocked.

Yup! He was a guard holding prisoners back IIRC. Filmed on the Gold Coast with Christopher Lambert? Launched his acting career (which peaked at Neighbours)
