It appears that Jason Akermanis has played his last game with the Brisbane Lions after the club revealed on Sunday that the controversial triple-premiership player has been granted a leave of absence for the remainder of the season.

Get him on the phone and down for a few sessions!

I'm sure there were people walking around the Gabba brandishing "Save Akka" banners, handing out pins & thinking they are mega cool.

Oh no, that sort of stuff only happens in Sydney. *rollseyes*

Um, no:

In one of the boldest protest moves seen in the AFL, the group, calling themselves the Aker Backers, are printing 1000 T-shirts with the slogan "I'm an Aker Backer" for fans to wear at the remainder of the Lions home games. It's a move similar, but on a far grander scale, to the Queensland Red's campaign to keep Chris Latham at Ballymore.

...

The public backlash to the Lions treatment of Akermanis is growing with The Courier-Mail continuing to receive emails and letters from fans and members on the topic, several threatening to tear-up their memberships if he is traded.

Try to keep up.
