HARD-WORKING Swans midfielder Amon Buchanan is in doubt for tomorrow night's match against Essendon after being hospitalised with an infected shoulder.
Buchanan was named in the side last night. However it is believed a cut on his shoulder developed a golden staph infection after last week's game. He could be missing from the side for two to three weeks during the run-up to the finals.

Yikes, a golden staph infection is notoriously hard to get rid off because its resistant to a lot of antibiotics.

I thought he had beaten his run of bad luck but he's found a new way to get injured.

That is nasty and can linger for a while in the system. It enervates the affected person.

Why not go with Doyle instead and free Richards from the back up rucking duties that he has been doing?

Whilst I have to admit I wouldn't be too keen to see Phillips back in the side again (apart from my insane man love for Nicky D, plus thinking 3 games is probably enough in his first year and he hasn't forced his way for more, I just have an image of the poor kid getting in a scuffle with Mark McVeigh... of course usually Mark seeks out his brother for a scuffle, but can you imagine an angry little ant like Mark going at Simon?), it would make the changes from last week to this
Out: Buchanan
In: Fosdike
which doesn't look quite as bad.

Yeah good point Robbie and Bloods. I was just assuming Roosy may take the standard approach of replacing like for like. I would definately like to see the Donk in to stretch their undersized defence and free up Richards to sit out in bay 29 and do nothing. :D

Because it's pissing down with rain and is forecast to do so for the rest of the weekend. Would be daft to go taller this week, of all weeks.

The conditions mean that a true goal sneak might be in order, but he (Phillips) needs to be played forward, not in the midfield.

Monty is just about the player I would least like the team to lose for this game, given his form and the weather.

What about leeches? Hey, if it was good enough for Queen Elizabeth I it should be good enough for Monty.

Great, so there could be golden staph in the Sydney changerooms, gym etc. That's just awesome.

Not wanting to casue alarm but golden staph can be fatal. It's known as a "super bug" and is resistent to many forms of antibiotics. It is also passed on through contact.

Yeah, but I'm sure the club can afford the $2000 fine if it really wanted to;)

Still somehow I doubt we'll see it happen

Bad, bad news for my favourite player. He must have been fighting too many orcs lately and forgot to wear his mithril undervest.

Bugger, I'm not happy at all. He was continiously one of our best players in the midfield. I hope we can cover up for him!:(

Says so here:

source (http://www.smh.com.au/news/Sport/Swans-have-finalwinning-form-Fosdike/2006/08/04/1154198314799.html)

There is likely to be a late change, with Amon Buchanan in hospital fighting a shoulder infection from a cut suffered during the week. Simon Phillips or Luke Vogels will be his replacement if he fails to recover.

If it had happened to Nick we wouldn't have any of these problems.

Probably got it from dirt. Some medical team we have got. Happens too often in the AFL.

Does beating an infection come down to sheer will power?

There's a chance he will play, and if he doesn't Flipper will come back into the 22.
