A great quarter except for Leo Barry's brain explosion. He is really a dud sometimes.

Goodesy on fire!!! 3 Brownlow votes if he keeps this up.

Sylvagni's comment "it isn't pretty to watch" in contention for worst call of the year... this game is one of the best I've seen this year!

Highlight of that quarter... actually getting a fair few frees and the Melb fans going feral about it.

Whilst Goldspink is a tool, he can be quite funny... shame he's not there as a comedian i suppose

A strange game...remember they are well under strength but still well in it because of great endeavour, dumb mistakes by Leo, also Malceski (this guy only has one great asset & needs to use it without taking too much time to get worried).
Goodes great but I'm not convinced we have it yet. What about the ridiculous report...perhaps the worst I have seen.

kirky + grundy playing pretty good and goodes is having a blinder- no reason why he cant get another brownlow.

One of the best games, so far, I have seen this season. One thing I've noticed, Melbourne make a lot of tackles but don't seem to have much sting in them. I have not seen a Swans player struggle to get straight up after a tackle yet. I'm am not saying that Melbourne are soft, just that they are not overly hard.

Richards...? Even I could get a few kicks if no one played on me!
Disposal still very dicey...even under no pressure.

Solid win against undermanned opposition...3 or 4 finish is certainly in our hands.

I think Doyle was a distinct improvement on what we have used before...well done for perseverance. Definitely in if his fitness holds up. A couple of nice grabs & can kick.

A good solid win, but not particularly impressive. We need to play a lot better (ie: more effective) than that to beat their full side.

Goodes was magnificent.
O'Keefe had a great first half, but dropped away a bit in the second half.
McVeigh was very good, particularly as a small forward again.
Ablett was great on Bruce and did a few useful things.
Kennelly was very good on Yze.
C Bolton was good as usual.
Jolly was good in ruck.
Doyle didn't do a lot, but looked okay and didn't get injured!
Schneider did some useful things.

Richards is a handy loose man down back - can take a good mark. But jury still out on anything else he can do.

Grundy good early but quiet later.
MOL looked threatening, but made some strange decisions.

Hall was rather disappointing. His overhead marking is nearly at its worst at the moment.
Barry was well beaten by Neitz and made some poor decisions.
J Bolton down and beaten by his tag.
Kirk had a lot of the ball, but disposal was often poor - has a nasty habit of turning back into traffic.

Overall our disposal was just average.
Our forward line is quite ineffective at times. At one stage I saw Dempster, Kennelly, J Bolton and MOL leading to the same spot.

We need to spread out the forward line and create more space. Given how much we dominated general play, our goalkicking (accuracy and no of shots) was not good.

We need an in-form Davis in our forward line.

Just got home from the game.

It was not a bad game. It was goal for goal early; I think the lead changed hands nine times.

Goodes has to get three Brownlow votes.

Favourite bit of play was Bevan laying a tackle on Neitz and winning a free in the second quarter.

Melbourne looked okay but could have done with Davey and Robertson in their forward line.

Good to see Grundy getting among the goals again.

Fosdike took a solid bump in the last quarter but he'll be OK. He looked a little dazed when he walked past the cheersquad but I think he'll play next week.

Finally, welcome back Doyley! The Melbourne media rabbit on about the games that Koschitske has missed, but Doyle's run of outs makes Kosi look like Yze.

I'm back.

Yep Teddy did alright and even Bevo did a couple of good things.

I'll wait for the stats but Bevo got a lot of junk kicks because Melbourne flooded back. But got to say a better effort. Melbourne didn't seem to bother about him too much. Still not in our top 25 for mine. Rather not see him even as an emergency in the big time.
Got reported for just dumb footy. He and another of our players had a Melbourne player cold, but Bevo just went the biffo and got reported. We had a clear run down the ground if he got it right.

Thought Dempster had a reasonable second half. Cut off a few of Melbourne's passes by being in the right position.

Melbourne only went into their 50 metres 30 times and many of those were poorly directed. Teddy got a lot of loose balls but you can only be in the right place.

As a matter of fact I reckon that was McVeigh's best game. First time he seems to have had a LOT of the footy. I must admit though I only went to watch one player, Bevo.

On Teddy, I haven't been his biggest critic. I thought he was OK early in the season but was soft at the contests against StKilda to point of saying he squibbed it. To his credit though he played well today. If he keeps going like that then I am on.

Kirk was terrific in close and used the ball much better.
Jolly dominated again. I'd love to know what's happened for him to improve so much compared to 5 or 6 weeks ago.
Ted was excellent. Don't think he did a thing wrong. Took 2 or 3 courageous marks. Hard to see him losing his spot after a performance like that.
Great to see Bevan play so well too. His tackling was great, and he didn't make any mistakes with the ball.

Selection next week is going to be hard. With Ted doing so well, Grundy might become the unluckiest man in Sydney.

i'd hardly say ted is doing great. yes he played well today but he really wasn't that good and he has been @@@@ for ages. IMO grundy deserves to stay in over richards but i don't think either of them should be out. bevan or dempster should be gone for the more experienced and more talented davis and crouch.

That is the beauty of our game mate, we see it through different eyes sometimes.

Nico...you got be kiddin re report...I am not a Bevan fan..but he did better today...and the report was the weakest I have ever seen...definitely a fair bump. Just shows how we can be become jaundiced in our opinion (me to sometimes!).

I said he played better today, but just dont believe he has got what it takes to stay at this level. I admit I am no fan of his, but nor am I of Mathews.

Not too many others in the side I have a problem with.

My opinion, no problems with yours, just what the culture of footy is all about.

I'm not a fan either as I said...but have another look at the bump...did you hear what the commentators said. The report will be withdrawn before the weekend is over...total joke.
By & large we seemed to get a fair run from the umps though...but still less frees than Melbourne (not that their fans seemed to notice).

I didn't think there was much in the report and neither did the guys on the radio after the game.

Pleased as punch to get the win!

That was one of the bigger tests we've had to face recently, and we passed this well and finals football all but assured from here.

Was pretty happy when I saw the result today. Well done boys, keep it bubbling along nicely just like this.

Few results gone our way this weekend, need to win the next few into the finals to keep form up.

If we win next week, top 4 should be assured.

Pies and dogs losing helps in that regard.

I agree. They had more frees, but there weren't any awful @@@@-ups and we got some soft ones in good positions. Nice to see for once.

I'll wait for the stats but Bevo got a lot of junk kicks because Melbourne flooded back.

He could have got a lot more! In the last quarter was waving his arms about on the defensive 50 as if Nick Davis was his mentor.

The free kick against Schneider for holding the ball (leading to a goal) and the non-throwing-the-ball by Melbourne (leading to a goal, after Barry's stuff up near half time) were two of the worst decisions I've seen for a while.

Bevan was ok but got a lot of cheap kicks at the end when the blokes were just kicking the ball around. I think the defenders' jobs were made easier by the fact that with Robbo, Davey and Pickett out their attack had lost a lot of its sting. That's why I wouldn't put too much store in Richard's performance, playing essentially loose man in defence is the easiest gig in footy. Grundy will need to improve his output to retain his place. He's only young and is looking all right but 6 touches is not going to be enough to pass muster come finals. And that's with 92 minutes of game time.
