Hi and welcome to Round 10 of the 2003 SFA Premiership Season

Last week saw all games played in perfect conditions with a shower of rain occurring near the end of the Penrith-St Clair v Sydney Uni Red match at Cook Park.

The two games that I will review this week will be the thriller between Sydney Uni and Cronulla and the thriller in SFA 2 between Penrith-St Clair and Sydney Uni Red.

First off is the game at Sydney Uni where Sydney Uni looked to win to stay unbeaten in 2003 and Cronulla looked for some consistency and to stay in touch of the top 5 as the season reaches its climax. Would the Sharks be able to withstand a savage bite from the Students at Sydney Uni. Lets head out to No. 1 Oval to find out.

In the first quarter the game started at a torrid pace with Cronulla kicking the two goals of the match before Sydney Uni hit back with the next two goals. A late goal to Uni saw them take a 8 point lead at Quarter time. A thriller was on the cards.

1/4 Time: Sydney Uni 3.2=20 Cronulla 2.0=12

In the second quarter, Cronulla hit back by kicking 3 goals to 1 goal but Sydney Uni held a slender margin of 2 points. The third quarter would be all important in this thriller.

1/2 Time: Sydney Uni 4.8=32 Cronulla 5.0=30

In the 3rd quarter, Cronulla came out like a house on fire and kicked the first 2 goals while Sydney Uni frittered opportunities away by kicking the next 2 goals 5 behinds. Cronulla hit back with the next 2 goals to take a 7 point lead into the last change. A potential upset was on the cards at Sydney Uni.

3/4 Time: Cronulla 9.2=56 Sydney Uni 6.13=49

In the final quarter, it was Sydney Uni's turn to dominate as they piled on 5 quick goals to go to a 26 point lead but Cronulla wasn't finished as they came home with a wet sail kicking 1 goal 6 behinds to finish 14 points shy of the Sydney Uni team at the Final siren.

Final Scores: Sydney Uni 11.16=82 defeated Cronulla 10.8=68

Best for the Students were: A. Peck and S. Nash whilst T. Bracken was best for the Sharks.

Now it's off to Cook Park for the final game of this review.
Penrith-St Clair played host to Sydney Uni Red, who along with Pennant Hills, Sydney Uni Blue and the Crows, had been the form sides in the Division 2 competition. The Crows were coming off a morale-sapping 80 point loss to Pennant Hills while the Students were coming off a 64 point win against South West Sydney. Could the Crows win back a place in the top 4 or would Uni Red be too strong. Lets head out to Cook Park St Marys to find out.

In the first quarter, the game started at a torrid pace with the Crows kicking the first 2 goals of the first quarter before Uni Red could score. The Crows backline played extraordinarily well to restrict the scoring power of the Uni Red side. The Crows kicked the final goal just before 1/4 time to take a 16 point lead into the first break

1/4 Time: Penrith/St Clair 3.5=23 Sydney Uni Red 1.1=7

In the second quarter, Sydney Uni Red came out fired up and quickly ate into the Crows' lead. They kicked the first 2 goals to bring the margin back to 4 points. The Crows quickly re-established their 1/4 time lead by kicking the next 2 goals. A late goal to Uni Red saw the Crows lead by 10 points at Half time. Again the third quarter would be all important.

1/2 Time: Penrith/St Clair 5.9=39 Sydney Uni Red 4.5=29

The third quarter provided no breakaway as the Crows and Uni Red went goal for goal. The Crows went into the last change with a lead of 18 points. Coach David Stevens implored his Crows team not to do anything silly and play football.

3/4 Time: Penrith-St Clair 7.12=54 Sydney Uni Red 6.6=42

The last quarter began with Sydney Uni Red kicking the 2 goals to reduce the Crows' margin to 6 points and, at that stage, looking the better of the two sides. But someone forgot to tell the Crows players as they kicked the next 2 goals 2 behinds to lead again by 20 points and looked to have wrapped the game up. Late goals to Uni Red and the Crows were acedemic as the Crows ran out 13 point winners and are now back in the 4.

Final Scores: Penrith-St Clair 10.14=74 defeated Sydney Uni Red 9.7=61

Best for the Crows were B. Bernie, A. Webb, B. McVea, J. Murray, D. Cunningham, M. Ord whilist D. Richards was best for the Uni Red team.
