Hi and welcome to Round 11 of the 2003 SFA Premiership Season

Last week saw all games played in perfect conditions.

The two games that I will review this week will be the thriller between Wollongong and UNSW/ES and the comprehensive belting that Penrith-St Clair gave UNSW/ES.

First off is the game at North Dalton Park where Wollongong looked to win to stay in second spot in 2003 and UNSW/ES looked to climb back into the top 5 as the season reaches its climax. Would the Lions be able to beat off an attack from the reigning premiers of 2002 at UNSW/ES. Lets head down south to North Dalton Park to find out.

In the first quarter the game started at a torrid pace with Wollongong kicking the two goals of the match before UNSW/ES hit back with the next two goals. A late goal to Wollongong saw them take a 10 point lead at Quarter time. A thriller was on the cards.

1/4 Time: Wollongong 3.5=23 UNSW/ES 2.1=13

In the second quarter, UNSW/ES hit back by kicking 2 goals to 1 goal to tie the game up at halftime. The third quarter would be all important in this thriller.

1/2 Time: Wollongong 4.5=29 UNSW/ES 4.5=29

In the 3rd quarter, the game tightened up with both sides kicking 2 goals 1 behind each but the reigning premiers led by 1 point at the last change. This game was turning into an epic tussle.

3/4 Time: UNSW/ES 6.7=43 Wollongong 6.6=42

In the final quarter, the game was had direct similarities to the 3rd Quarter with both sides kicking 2 goals but Wollongong held on to win by 3 points in what was a truly epic match of football.

Final Scores: Wollongong 8.10=58 defeated UNSW/ES 8.7=55

Best for the Lions were: J. Collyer and C. Werfel.

Now it's off to Cook Park for the final game of this review.
Penrith-St Clair played host to UNSW/ES, who along with Pennant Hills, Sydney Uni Blue and the Crows, had been the form sides in the Division 2 competition. The Crows were coming off a morale-boosting 13 point win against Sydney Uni Red while UNSW/ES needed a win to stay in the top 4. Could the Crows have back-to-back wins ad climb to second spot in the top 4 or would UNSW/ES be too strong. Lets head out to Cook Park St Marys to find out.

In the first quarter, the game started at a torrid pace with the Crows kicking the first 2 goals of the first quarter before UNSW/ES could score. The Crows backline played extraordinarily well to restrict the scoring power of the Bulldogs side but the Bulldogs managed to kick 3 goals to take an early lead. The Crows kicked the final goal just before 1/4 time to take a 2 point lead into the first break. It was a lead that the Crows would not relinquish for the rest of the day.

1/4 Time: Penrith/St Clair 3.5=23 UNSW/ES 3.3=21

In the second quarter, Penrith-St Clair came out fired up and quickly kicked clear of the UNSW/ES team. They kicked the first 2 goals to blow the margin out to 14 points. Both sides added a goal just before halftime but the Crows took a commanding 25 point lead into the major break.

1/2 Time: Penrith/St Clair 7.13=55 UNSW/ES 4.6=30

The third quarter provided the best term of football played by the Penrith-St Clair Crows this year. The Crows came out and put 8 goals 2 behinds to 2 goals 5 behinds to effectively wrap the game up at the last break. Penrith Rams players Stephen Allen, Jason Bradley and Martin Butchers figured in many of the goals with Jason finishing off alot of the Crows good work with goals. The Crows led by 58 points at the final change

3/4 Time: Penrith-St Clair 15.15=105 UNSW/ES 6.11=47

The last quarter saw the two teams even up on the scoreboard but the Crows finished 61 points clear of UNSW/ES at the final siren.

Final Scores: Penrith-St Clair 19.17=131 defeated UNSW/ES 9.16=70

Best for the Crows were J. Bradley, M. Butchers, B. Richardson, A Olah and the Triffit Brothers
To tomorrow's games.....
My tips are...........

Penrith
Sydney Uni
Mac Uni
UNSW/ES
Wollongong

and in Division 2
Go the mighty Crows

At this stage all games are on tomorrow but this is subject to council decision to open grounds. A decision is pending.

Thanks and Regards
