*cough cough*

I posted this on AFLHQ awhile ago.

Hall - The key to our season. Consistency will see him go very close to a Coleman. Better in general play than Lloyd. Needs to work on marking.

Mathews - No longer rated a future captain. Should move back to hbf where he belongs after unsuccessful move to midfield in 2002.

O'Keefe - Hard, tough midfielder/forward. Progress has been slowed, hampered by injury and family tragedy in 2002. Played some very good matches in the forward line late in the year, and should move to the midfield in 2003.

Seymour - Last chance. Hampered by injuries for several seasons, and seemed to lose his way completely in 2002. Made some terrible errors of judgement that cost premiership points in a couple of matches. With youngsters ready to push into the backline, needs to assert his position early in the year.

Cresswell - Probably last season in 2003, but he continues to put in the hard yards and get the results for the Swans. 2nd in best and fairest in 2002. Has lost some pace and his skills have lost a little polish, but still comfortably in the best 22.

Fixter - The big surprise packet in 2002, played 17 games and was amongst our best in a few matches. Held Stephen Milne to one possession in round 20. Has cemented his spot and should push on further this year, with more emphasis on his ruck roving and tagging than back pocket.

Williams - The star of the Swans team. Had 2 brilliant seasons in a row, and is full steam ahead for a third. Only 30, perfectly fit and no reason to expect him to slow down. Chance for the Captaincy.

Maxfield - Only 31 but will be watched closely to see how he returns from a knee injury. Expected to be named Captain in coming weeks. Should play on the wing/half back flank.

Fosdike - Showed signs under Roos of finally living up to his potential, which saw selected at #3 in the '98 draft. Has a lot of experience, and should cement a spot as a first string midfielder in 2003.

McPherson - Last chance. Has hovered near the best 22 for 7-8 years, but has always failed to cement a spot. Lost favour in 2002 amongst rumours of falling out with Eade, which might explain his reprieve for 2003. First half of the year is crucial.

Doyle - Should assume first ruck duties. Has a lot of potential, injuries in last 3 years prevented him from stringing matches together and showing his talent. The club needs him to have a big year.

Stevens - Finally broke through to the senior team in 2002, and played 14 matches. Is a chance to assume CHF duties, but needs to take his opportunities. A poor year would probably see him out the door. Has talent, just needs to use it.

Kennelly - Has only been playing Aussie Rules for 3 years. Already one of our best players. Limitless potential. A Brownlow in future years is possible. WATCH THIS SPACE! Will spend most of his time on a wing.

O'Loughlin - Has talent to burn, but is coming off 2 mediocre years. Only kicked 30 goals in 19 matches. Needs a big season or he could be considered as trade bait.

Ablett - Played 4 matches in 2002, but didn't impress greatly. Another average season may see him at risk of being delisted. Midfield/forward role.

Barry - Injury prone and enigmatic backman. Has a lot of ability, but lacks discipline. An injury free season should see him secure his future.

Saddington - Still only 23 and relishing opportunity to take key back position. Believed to be remodelling his game on that of Paul Roos, and he could do a lot worse. 2003 is his big opportunity. Also a likely V-C or DV-C.

Nicks - Very good early in 2002, but lost his way terribly under Paul Roos. Seems to be surplus to club's game plan. Utility who can play forward, back or on a wing. Like many others, needs to improve to ensure a spot. Rumoured to be considered for a trade in 2002.

J. Bolton - Went backwards in 2002, and was mooted as possible trade bait. With younger players crowding around for his spot, needs to improve to stay central to the club's plans, although his contract is until 2004. Forward/midfield role.

Schauble - Possible fill in at full back to cover Dunkley, although he may be considered too light. Very good when injury free, but had problems in 2001-02.

Ball - Missed entire 2002 season through injury. Impossible to predict, but has been training well. Is well inside our best 22 when fit.

Crouch - Very underrated ruck rover/tagger. One of the fastest players in the league, and goes about his business with a minimum of fuss. Automatic selection.

Powell - Yet to play senior footy, is a KP who is expected to compete for defensive position. Hampered by injuries in 2002.

Roberts-Thompson - Stil developing, after only four years of Aussie Rules. Tall utility, should play first senior matches in 2003.

Kirk - Underrated midfielder. Is perenially under pressure for his spot. At 26 he's only played 49 matches, mostly off the bench. But when he gets on the field, he produces.

Buchanan - Played 6 matches in 2002. Centre/forward pocket. Not a stereotypical footballer. Has talent, and should get increased opportunities in 2003.

Warfe - Backman, talented but very injury prone. Played only a handful of matches in 2002. This year is his last chance.

Hunt - Yet to debut. Tall utility. Competing for defensive spot, and is believed to have bulked up considerably over off-season.

Sundqvist - Blooded in round 21, but was injured quickly. Very talented and will make his mark in 2003. Lots of potential.

Schneider - Midfielder yet to debut. Small at 175cm. Struggled with glandular fever in 2002.

Goodes - Another ace in the deck. Oozes talent, played the best football of his career in second half of 2002. Could do anything in 2003. One of three players (along with Hall and Williams) who is capable of winning the Brownlow this year. Can play ruck, wing, ruck rover, chf, chb, fb, ff, and the flanks. Future champion.

McVeigh - extremely fast midfielder. Was apparently rated likely #1 draft pick 2 years ago, before suffering from injury. Extremely talented.

Dempster - father/son selection. Tall midfielder. Considered a bargain at #34.

Thewlis - Midfielder. Good skills, dropped to #50 in draft due to hip injury. Swans were happy to get him cheaply.

Malceski - Another midfielder with highly rated skills., low round selection. Again, the Swans considered him a cheap pick-up.

Davis - Maybe I should let the Pies fans answer this one? No... They'd never do him justice. Gifted forward/midfielder. Had a poor year in 2002 but is still very highly rated. Some people consider him a future Top 10 player in the AFL. Will be interesting to see how he adjusts to his new club.

C. Bolton - Pre-season draft selection. Midfielder/defender from Brisbane. Struggled to get into senior side at the Lions, and was twice an emergency in Grand Finals. Played primarily in defence at AFL level but averaged over 40 touches in the midfield when playing in the AFLQueensland. Should walk into Swans best 22.

that's true my Pie fans who are friends think he is a real talent who is a bit lazy. I mentioned I grew up with him. The one thing which puzzled me about his recent statements though is that he always wanted to play for the Swans. Well he always followed the Eagles, and I remember in 1992 he was so excited to go and watch them win the grand final and he didn't much like our team. He was also excited when he got all his collingwood stuff to wear. I fear he has returned more for convenience. Regarding our general llist, I think we lack depth and class and there are indeed holes around the ground which need to be filled

Depth will have a chance to prove itself by gametime, The transitition has already unearthed future talent...more around than many think.

The depth of our side is something that won't be decided for at least 10 rounds.
