Worked tonight and had little to do so I thought I'd do a bit of research.I have looked through our National Draft choices for the past 5 years.I have not includud pre-season or rookie drafts.We definately need to do better in our chioices.We have traded high picks to get players such as Jolly,Richards and Mattner.

2003: Pick 16 Josh Willouhby 0 games;29 TIM SCHMIDT 17 games;
47 Andrew Erickson 0 games; 59 Matthew Davis 0 games.

2004: Pick 31 JARRED MOORE 28 games;47 David Spriggs 5 games;61 Heath James 0 games.

2005: Pick 51 Matthew Laidlaw 1 game;54 Kristin Thornton 0 games;
59 Ryan Brabazon 1 game.

2006: Pick 15 Daniel O'Keefe;49 Daniel Currie 0 games;65 Peter Faulks 0 games; 79 Jesse White 2 games.

2007: Pick 11 Patrick Veszpremi 2 games;26 Brett Meredith 0 games;
59 Swans scholarship player CRAIG BIRD 19 games.

We did have a good Rookie year in 2005 where we claimed at 57 KIERAN JACK 21 games;
and at 58 ED BARLOW 11 games.

When you see the lists it seems that we take a long time to blood our players.Roosy says that is going to change.I hope so.

It doesn't make sense to look at the national draft in isolation, it's just one part of the Swans' recruiting program. They haven't done too bad over the past 5 years:
2003 Craig Bolton, Tim Schmidt
2004 Darren Jolly, Jarred Moore, Heath Grundy
2005 Ted Richards, Ryan Brabazon, Kieran Jack, Ed Barlow
2006 Peter Everitt, Jesse White, Luke Brennan, Nick Smith, Matthew O'Dwyer
2007 Martin Mattner, Henry Playfair, Patrick Vezpremi, Craig Bird
plus a handful of very promising but untried youngsters like Currie, Faulks, O'Keefe and Meredith.

How would blooding youngsters quicker be of benefit to the club??
