Question: Who is going to poll the most Browlow votes for us???? Is it gonna be Kirky, O'Keefe, maybe even McVeigh???

I have my cash on O'Keefe (mainly cos Kirky is too short)...

The official invites from the Swans are
Leo Barry (co-captain)
Craig Bolton (co-captain)
Brett Kirk (co-captain)
Martin Mattner
Jarrad McVeigh
Ryan O'Keefe

Past winners are also invited so add Adam Goodes to the list.

The first three are invited due to them being captains.

This would suggest that Mattner may have polled well?

My tip for most votes is Ryan O'Keefe.

There can be 3 names only on the list for who polled the most for Sydney.

ROK
McV
Kirk

No one else in the teamed wil poll anywhere near these guys (Nor they should).

Behind these 3.... Fourth is a very, very, very, very long way off....

I agree with the sentiment vis a vis votes as the sad reality is that the Brownlow is a midfielder's award.

But it could be argued that Mattner has had a great season and is easily in our best 5 of '08.

The umps LURV Kirky. He'll probably poll highest for the Swans, followed closely by McHack.

Can you believe that this year we're talking up McHack for a Charlie???
He wasn't sitting this pretty this time last year.

If there's a Charlie for Most Improved Player, McHack should get it.

On Sportbet we have Kirk, Goodes, ROK and MCveigh to poll the most Swans votes, then $21.00 any other player.

Given that J Bolton often polls well and he has had a much better season and throw in Mattner and $21 looks OK.

Do the umpires know the names of any Swans other than Goodes? Really don't think he was our best player over the first 6 rounds - especially not by that much. Two votes in the Geelong game:eek: That was the game after which Roos gave him a bit of a public spray, comparing his contribution with GAblett's.

Not sure about the Carlton game. That was when he got absolutely pantsed for 3/4 by Gibbs but then dug deep in the final term to help us over the line.

It's actually a bit annoying that Goodes is polling so well because it gives ammunition to the flakes on BF who claim he's an umpires' pet who doesn't really deserve to be a dual Brownlow medallist. In the years he won, there were very few undeserved votes (and some deserved ones he didn't get) but his polling so well this year is just plain bizarre.

On a different note, nice of Kirky to take Benny M as his "date".

It's a weird count because most of the players who've polled extremely well so far fell of a little in the second half. GAblett will still get some more votes but missed a lot of games. Cooney was nowhere near as good in the last third of the season. Black has already said he's got all he pretty much thinks he can get. Richo didn't fire quite as much late in the season.

Riewoldt and Bartel will come with a rush but they're a long long way back. And Brent Harvey's not polling nearly as well as expected.

Young Selwood is one who will get lots of late season votes and is probably close enough.

Doubt Kirk can get there. I thought his last month was quite quiet, and we lost a lot of games convincingly over that period too.

There is just no way known that Goodes should be polling THIS many votes considering the start to the season he had, the amount of matches he missed due to injury and suspension and of course how many games his was impacted upon due to injury which in turn held him back.

Good to see Kirk getting votes now.

You'd assume Buddy could poll a vote in that final round, though Fev deserves more than him in that final round.

It's going to be either Black, Ablett, Richo or Cooney. If it's one of the first two I'll be happy, not a huge fan of Cooney as much as the other two. Add B. Harvey to the players who I don't want to see win it. :)

Goodes had 10 kicks, 11 handballs and took 8 marks in the round 11 win over West Coast when he was reported. I think that had he not being found guilty of striking there is a reasonable chance he woiuld have picked up 3 votes to make a tied win. Personally, even though he didn't have a great year, I think Goodes kissed goodbye a third Brownlow.

I don't like saying it but there, I did.

*Everyone* should feel sorry for Richo though. The poor guy.

Xie Shan is right though - the fact our youngsters were polling is a good sign for next year. Here's hoping Goodes get's hungry and motivated enough to pull his head in from the get-go next year.

I am glad he didn't win it because he didn't have a Brownlow deserving year. Him getting so many votes was bad enough. Winning this year would have completely detracted from the two deserved ones he has.

For similar reasons I am glad Black didn't win. He had a pretty good season (better than Goodes) but even he seemed completely embarassed by the way he was polling. Mind you, I thought he was a chance to pick up a vote in the round 22 game against us. Despite the thrashing we handed the Lions, Black was superb in that game and gave Kirk the worst pantsing I can remember Kirk getting for several seasons.
