The AFL (NSW/ACT) Commission and Balmain Australian Football Club have joined forces to raise funds for injured Balmain footballer Simon Meyer.

Simon Meyer, 20 years old, was seriously injured whilst playing for the Tigers on Sunday 13 July at Drummoyne Oval.

An organising committee has been set up to coordinate a number of activities, including a gala dinner and sports memorabilia auction in February 2004, on the eve of the annual AFL Exhibition match at North Sydney Oval between the Sydney Swans and Essendon.

All money raised through appeal activities will go towards medical expenses incurred by Simon and his family during his rehabilitation.

The first of a number of activities will be a chocolate drive. All clubs in Greater Sydney, both junior and senior, are getting involved to sell chocolates and help raise funds for the Simon Meyer Sydney AFL appeal.

It is hoped the Simon Meyer Sydney AFL Appeal will raise around $100,000 in the coming year.
