AFL floats crackdown on football's fakers (http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/86043/default.aspx)

PLAYERS staging for free kicks could be fined under a proposal put before clubs as part of an AFL review of the tribunal.

The AFL has written to all 16 clubs as part of a review of the tribunal to obtain feedback on eight major points, with one of the biggest talking points sure to be fines for staging.

(clap) (five)

He knew this was coming and got out of the game. Rumour has it that the A-League clubs are chasing him as a specialist "Penalty Enhancing" coach

That and the fear of playing the Hawks again.

Not an Italian National team?

When you think about it - what with the dives (Lloydy would fit in perfectly), tantrums (Lloydy would fit in perfectly) & crap (Lloydy....) that the players go on with in Soccer (not to mention how mind numbingly boring the game is) doesnt it seem appropriate that the A-league premiership "trophy" is actually a silver plated toilet seat ?;) Lloydy would look terrific with that hanging around his neck!!!

Even better if it were bolted into the traditional location at the same time.

Might have a negative impact on Melbourne's water supply though.

Geez I didnt think of that either - perhaps another state, with less harsh water restrictions, should take out the "ring" this year?

I'm not Lloydy's biggest fan, but there is a lot of dislike for him on this board. Is it just because he dives and is boring as bat@@@@, or is there something I'm missing here?

I hate him 'cause I get the impression from him that he's totally up himself.

You forgot to add "penalty puller" - he turned diving for frees into an artform. and he had the cleanest shorts in the game - its just not right!;)

Crackdown on AFL 'divers' | Herald Sun (http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/afl-crackdown-on-players-staging-for-free-kicks/story-e6frf9jf-1225787339936)

THE AFL's proposed crackdown on players who stage for free kicks has gained strong club support, with the league determined to stamp out "divers".

Blatant examples involving Hawthorn's Lance Franklin and Collingwood's Alan Didak this year have been highlighted by rival clubs, who have told the AFL the issue is well worth addressing.

While the likes of retired forwards Matthew Lloyd and Russell Robertson have been labelled serious stagers, the league is more intent on stamping out a trend than stopping an epidemic.

And with a picture of Brent Harvey.

The interesting one for me is not the diving issue (and good on the AFL for moving to stamp it out) but the "letting the ump know I've been held/pushed" issue, where the offence has actually happened and should be picked up. I think of the early game against Brisbane in 2005 (a final quarter I play with the Geelong/St Kilda/West Coast trifecta) when a Scott scragged Baz, who lurched all over the place and got a free that he converted to put us in front for the first time in the game after the final siren. I hope the AFL in their zeal are not going to crack down on such "messages".
