I'm making a new video and want some swans supporters opinions before I make the final decision on what I'm going to do.

Of the swans moments above, which stand out in your memory the most? Which is your favourite?

If I have missed any extremely important ones (Or things that just stick out in your mind and think is worth a mention), feel free to list them. I'm sure I have missed a few. Those are the ones that just pop into my mind for the moment.

(I also need to take into consideration the availability of video/footage/media etc)

You may find it hard to find footage of Pluggers 1400th goal...

After the siren at Kelly and Dunks retirement game 2002?

I went for Pluggers 1996 point.

It was one of the first really exciting moments that I can recall. Jumping up and down on the bed after watching it in the bedroom on the small portable TV.
As great and as memorable as the others are, this was probably the catalyst for where we are now as a club.

I'd probably go for the point as well, it's the game that converted me from dads 6 year old Collingwood supporter into mums 6 years old Swans supporter, eternally grateful for that :)

There have been so many great moments though it's hard to choose just one, how do you beat anything in a 72 year drought breaking grand final?

I get the point of the point being the start of the journey to ultimate success, but the point of the whole thing is to win it. The final siren signifying a 4 point victory, and ultimate victory, for me is the whole reason for a footy club to exist. Final siren 2005 grand final: One of 4 greatest Swans moments of all time.

I hesitated for a long while before picking 'that mark' in front of Nick's 4th. But it would have been interesting to have another in the mix: "Here it is!"

Robbie Ahmat's goal against Norf ,Bradshaws Torp and Schneiders sealing goal in 05 prelim were also great moments.

As for the moments mentioned above I went for Pluggers point. It's only a bees appendage in it but this was the moment where the Swans were accepted by this city as one of their own.

Whatever your personal choice there has been some great moments over the years hasn't there?

Love this club!!!

Silly poll. All of them!

I am going to pick PK's goal against North - the pinball one which was a thing of beauty. No, Micks fatbastard scream. Or Pluggers Point instead of Leo's Mark.

No, changed my mind, Leo's mark. Hold the phone! If Monty hadn't kicked the goal in the 2005 GF there would have been no mark. So its Monty.

Hmm. That last quarter against Geelong; the whole of it was brilliant and I can live every moment of it over and over. Almost as much as the PF against Port in 2003 (WHY isn't that listed!! What is going on! Jude's goal, Stuey's bouncer from 60 out, LRT's that got the ball rolling, and He Got Up, he just got up!). Yep my favourite actual game of all.

OK, made up my mind, I think, Nick Davis it is. Nothing else would have happened in 2005 if Kirky hadn't given him the evil eye and he played the best quarter of footy in his life. We would not have not seen any of the other 4 choices for the GF otherwise.

Mind you, Robbies goal was just plain brilliant. I can still see him screaming towards me, with Stuey windmilling his arm urging him on.

The mark - for me was the greatest moment, with the GF win being the greatest overall achievement. But that mark was, as many would agree, one of the great moments not just for the Swans but in AFL history.

In the last decade it has to be Leo.

But I loved Lingy's chat with Goodes about the 2005 semi-final on the Swans website today.

"Bloody Nick Davis!":D

Goodes and Ling reflect on '05 Semi - Official AFL Website of the Sydney Swans Football Club (http://www.sydneyswans.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/7106/newsid/111411/default.aspx)

A few more:

Lewis Jetta's goal from last week.

The drought breaking win against Melbourne in 1993.

Plugger slinging Dustin Fletcher over the fence like a rag doll.

I had to pick Leo's mark. That was when it all finally fell into place. A beautiful and astonishing moment.

Can't remember the year (hey I could be completely wrong and just making this up), but it was a Swans/West Coast game, Paul Kelly had come back after being sidelined for a number of weeks with am injured knee (cracked kneecap?). Rocket was the coach, the list was put out, no Paul Kelly. On the nite, Paul Kelly came running out (fine was issued by AFL). After the first bounce Kelly went to the air for a mark, total disregard - knee put to the test. That mament sticks in my mind, along with all the above.

Yeah yeah blinddog, I know when you mean, he had been out half a year with a cracked patella, was that a wc or freo game.....can't remember except it was in perth; freo I think. We didn't win, but it was blindingly brilliant wasn't it.

The drought breaking win against Melbourne in 1993.

That was the first time I'd seen the Swans play. And it was good. I'd kill to get footage of that game.

Ultimately I feel compelled to go with Leo's mark, but Plugger's Point announced that Sydney had come out of the wilderness well and truely, and gave the fans something to dream about. Nick Davis's four goals was just incredible, Paul Kelly's goal (and the mark blinddog mentions), Post-match Round 22 2002... there's just so many great memories and moments I have of this club.

It's like the thread comparing Goodes to Kelly to Skilton, I find it way too hard to seperate champions and don't think they should. Every moment's a winner!

Yes it was Freo.
Kelly went down after a mark on the boudary line, and we all held out breath, until he got up kicked the ball and ran off.

I had to go with Leaping Leo's mark in the 2005 GF, but runner up is definitely Micky O and the fat bastard from 2006! (love that description) . Have an autographed copy of that photo - it is an absolute gem. :D

Not the greatest moment ever....but my favourite was Amon's tackle on the member's wing in the 4th quarter. Deep down inside I KNEW we were going to win right then and there!

Also Kirky jumping straight up after being shirt-fronted by Byron Pickett in the 2003 Qualifying Final :-) Deep down inside I KNEW we were going to win right then and there!

I would include:
*2003 Qualifying Final against Port - The captain getting straight up from a Byron Pickett shirtfront
*1999 game against Kangaroos esp Paul Kelly's goal
*Warwick Capper's marks
*Scoring 200 points in successive weeks in 1987
*In general, footage from the glory days of 86-87 - Diesel, Gerard Healy, David Bolton, Bernard Toohey, Tony Morwood, etc
*Adam Schneider's goals against St Kilda in 2005 PF
*Some footage of Magic being magical

I'm waiting for the non Greatest Swans moments video. I can rattle about a dozen off the top of my head for that one.

I'd ditch the O'Loughlin v Fat Bastard. After all, two weeks later that fat bastard had the last laugh.

Instead, the 2003 QF, Sydney v Port and Kirk got shirt fronted then got up. How quickly we forget.

It would have to be the mark that ended Sampi's career.

None of the above.

One of the finest moments was beating Collingwood at the Lake Oval in 1970. Peter McKenna marked the ball 30 metres out dead in front....a split second after the final siren and we win by less than a goal.

You reckon those Pies supporters weren't filthy on that one.

Rnd 11 15th June 1970. 4 goals down into time on and we won by a point. I was only a young lad but I still remember the Ferals supporters crying in the outer. One of the best days of my childhood. Only 2005 beats it.

Have to go with Nick Davis' 4th goal - more for the extent of the comeback coz we were gone for all money. "10 years of my life I've given you and this is how you repay me" - throw hat of on ground and stomp on it - was that which turned it round and not Kirk's words to Davis.... My then 8 year old learned some new words that night...

Other memories Cresswell banging the knee back in, Cresswell winning it with a goal after the siren against North in 2002 (someone's milestone from memory - Mickey O?) and the "Roooos" chant from they players on the retirement night for Dunks and Kel. And 44,000 in SCG for the Ablett vs Plugger fest - only game I ever had to stand for in pre-membership days.

The old red brick stand shook that day !
We could not believe the result and Norm Smith coached the team to its first finals appearance in many years.
In those days to get a win was a rarity .... but to beat Collingwood .... :) :) :)

Can I change my vote? I have watched the 2005 DVD pack over the last couple of days and ND's 4 goals is it for me.
The come from behind... the star (burning fast and bright) putting on a show .... and the Swans diong all the blue collar things (blocks, sheperding, tackling) that needed to be done to get the win.

It has everything, even a little conspiracy if I remember correctly. The watering of the grass to make it more difficult for the "UGLY" Swans to win.;) (I choose to ignore the Hall Maguire incident a week later.)

Have a look at the Nick Davis greeting thread. I'll say tie between that and Leo's mark. Both crucial to getting the GF.

OK. Make it a trifecta. Those two plus lifting the cup. The emotions of the first two and the feelings of pleasure of the last.

Has to be the moment the siren went. As an "in game" moment it's a toss up between Nick Davis and Leo Barry but the siren going and us winning the flag has to be the moment in terms of elation.

I guess your only talking about things that there will be footage of?The most important moment for this club for mine followed closely by the 05 flag was the day it was announced South would become Sydney,we now as the club says have 2 cities one team and if not for some people at the time thinking ahead and seeing the big picture the swans as we know them today would never of existed, yes there would of been a Sydney team but they wouldnt of got some handy players like Round,Browning,Wright,Evans and co and wouldnt of had that bloods ethos to fallback on in those really dark times in the early 90's and that inspired Kirk and co more recently.Having a fan base in Melbourne is such a bonus as im sure many of us have been to melbourne games and seen on some occasions theres more red and white than opposition supporter admittedly not against the big clubs.Im just so greatful the decision was made and that theres still a swans team that now thrives in Sydney, biggest moment in the clubs history for mine,The Bloodbath would have to be up there as well i guess and of course 33.

I chose Leo Barry's game winning mark but i also could have easily picked

2. Jude/Buch's last qtr GF
3. Sitting at the G for the Prelim final against the Saints and watching their supporters leave after copping abuse for supporting the Swans (and no other reason)
at the elimination final the year before.

Special note - For my man Plugger's 1300th but that was more of an individual moment rather than for the Swans

I travelled down for all of those games. Hayden Kennedy gave us that free but has punished us ever since for that 'questionable' decision. It was also the game that effectively ended Scott Direen's career when he got creamed by Merenda from memory, fairly I may add, when Troy Gray delivered a hospital short kick across field on half back. Direen missed many weeks with concussion and never came back the player he was.

The game at Princes/Optus/Visy/Whateveratthetime Park against North was special. Plugger had 1 up until halftime and kicked 10. Roos' 300th and Maxfield's 100th as well.

The day we beat Carlton, which also broke a record run of home wins for Carlton was possible the most enjoyable game I have ever spent at the footy, 2005 GF aside. There was a pretty large group of us and we managed to get tickets to watch the game from the bar of the Carlton Social Club. The inmates were ready to kill us by the end of the game. Such fun...lol

100% correct Triple B. I was only 9 at the time but footy was as important to me then as it is now and that Carlton game (along with the 2003 QF against Port) is as good a day as I've ever spent at the footy. It really showed that the win over North two weeks earlier was no fluke and that we were genuine contenders. Kouta and Kelly were the best two players on the ground - I must have watched the replay 50 times.

And surely you didn't 'enjoy' the 2005 GF?! Great day in the club's history but I didn't enjoy one second of it, until that siren went.

It may have been against a lowly Fitzroy that was on its last legs, but Plugger's 16-0 against them (round 19 1995, Whitten Oval) was a pretty cool time as well. He would have broken Fanning's record that day had he not been accidentally benched for 10 minutes.

He was chasing Wanganeen and Barry Young came in to shephard. Poor Plugger was too tired to run around him, so ran thru him instead....lol. And as Al said, that was the very incident where he did the groin.

Funny story that game,

My missus: 'Surely you are not driving to Melbourne AGAIN, it's your daughters 4th birthday on Sunday'.
Me: 'Of course I am, and whats more, she's going to Melbourne for her birthday!!!'

...so early Friday morning I loaded her into the car seat and off we went. Stayed at the Duke of Wellington (R.I.P) and drove home Sunday...

I went to the Port game as well. I really remember saying to my wife as we flew over "I really, really have no idea why we are going, we truly cannot win" which was pretty out of character for me, I'm the original glass half full man, although I still think I'm pretty objective. It was one of the great days for me, we won against all the odds and I won around $1500 at the casino that night. Good times.

Just on that Carlton game, as you quite rightly say, Kouta and Kelly were absolutely mighty that day, as good a dual as you could imagine between 2 absolute superstars. I eagerly awaited that game when Brownlow night came around, wondering who would get the 3 votes. "3 votes - Fraser Brown" WTF??

Oh yeaaahhh.. the night the Sydney chant went up......brilliant, haunting, never been a better one, with the howling wind, driving rain, OUTstanding moment.

And how could I forget the North Game!!!! With the blonds, and Plugger and Shagga double teaming in the 4th quarter, and Dunks and Carey having a go, and Roosy directing traffic (coaching even then) and the bloke with the 4yo girl who he held up every time there was a goal, he must have been exhausted, sometimes see his face in the Vic crowd to this day. I have a copy of this game. Wish I had the Carlton one, but at the time I hadn't worked out what it would be like over summer with NO footy. I wiped them all.....except the Crows game and North.

To this day I've not seen weather like that for a game in Sydney. At that time i usually sat in the back row of the front section if the Brewongle. That night we had to move to the second elevation to escape the rain.

There was a mist that hung over the ground like the an early morning on moors In England. This haunting melodic chant that seemed to emanate from the mist itself wafted over the ground and the players. There seemed to be a special power to that chant because the Sydney players responded in a super human way and repelled a West Coast side kicking with a roof lifting wind. The result was one of best nights in our history with a terrific win and the birth of the greatest chant in AFL history,

I was at that game ... and if my memory serves me correct, he took himself off. Possibly due to a misunderstanding ... but Eade didn't want him off - he was just as stunned afterwards ... Now I have to go trawl google for the report ...

Correction ... Stunned as mullett coach was Barassi ... Here (http://www.aussieflights.com.au/aussie-flights-articles/1999/5/23/super-swan-feels-the-heat/)

95: Sweet'n'sour 16 - Lockett ventured to the Lions' den at Whitten Oval and single-handedly slayed Fitzroy. His haul of 16 goals was his highest in a match. Lockett missed his chance to Fred Fanning's record of 18 when he came off the ground after misinterpreting instructions from coach Ron Barassi.

We were the same. Vividly remember the Port supporters saying "you've come a long way to watch your team get smashed" and then responding with, "we've just come to see your mob choke" - not for a minute did we actually think it'd happen. I think we were 7 goals up at half time but we didn't dare think we were home. One of the all time great wins with O'Loughlin going down in the last game against the Dees and having several other injuries.

As for Fraser Brown, kicked a couple of great goals but no way known was he BOG.

The thing about that game is I'm almost sure it was NOT telecast into Sydney..... I have no idea why.

He had 10 at half time I think (with a spell on the bench in the 2nd quarter). Absolutely incredible, he was kicking them from everywhere! Pity there's no footage of the game.

It isn't an option (I went with Davo!), but as someone that grew up playing footy in Sydney through the 80s and 90s, and the constant, constant abuse that my love of that game brought me as a teenager (strongest memory is having shoulder dislocated over the weekend, thinking "now they'll know it's a tough sport" and turning up to school only to cop "Wow. How gay are you that you get injured in a gay sport like that?"*), I honestly can't express how amazingly important it was to me personally when George Street was packed with people and I saw the Swans presented on the steps of Town Hall. We live a privileged life in Australia in most instances, and it seems to me silly to be so moved by this, but I had my son who had desperately wanted to start playing footy on my shoulders and I was thinking "this is our town" and knew he wasn't going to cop it all day because he could kick a football properly.

*In all fairness to them, I was a huge Bowie fan in my youth ("in my youth" he says, trying to suggest he's so far beyond that now) and the whole "how gay are you" thing really probably didn't have that much to do with playing footy.

The memories keep flooding back.

I was in the stand on the outer wing and had an older chap next to me with his wife next to him, resplendent in her teal, black and silver outfit. Before the game I got talking to him whilst she went to powder her nose and he confessed to me that he was a Crows supporter and was hoping like hell we would win, but don't dare let the missus know. Every goal we kicked was met with a short sharp dig in my ribs as he turned and commiserated with his wife and a quick wink as he turned back in my direction. It was very very funny and my wife and I were in hysterics, not only at the scoreline but the goings on next door....lol

As for 7 goals in front but still not comfortable, I know exactly where u are coming from. When Chad Cornes goaled right on 3/4 time to give them a sniff, the Port crowd got right into it and chanted and screamed the whole time during the break. It was intimidating just sitting in the stand listening to it. Fortunately our boys were made of sterner stuff than me...lol

That's great, they really can't stand each other Crows and Power supporters (even when they're an item it seems!).

I was in the second tier of that stand on the outer wing, right on the wing. We had this Swans supporter near us who just yelled "hit the post" every time a Port player lined up for goal. I don't think he knew all that much about the game but he kept us entertained and annoyed the crap out of the Port fans.

Heart was definitely in the mouth when Chad took that big grab and finished, as you're right, it was really the first time the crowd had got involved. Davo goaled after a one handed grab in the last quarter (and it only fell in too) - that was probably the first time I thought we'd actually win.

Can also remember a Port supporter going ballistic in the pub after the game - few days later they showed him on the footy show, outside Footy Park smashing chairs and giving Mark Williams an almighty spray!

Leo running back into a pack and saving a certain goal also sticks in my mind. Great memories, might go and put it on.

Wow i remember having these 3 games on video for years until they became unwatchable after too many viewings,as a few have said its so hard as theres so many great moments.Who remembers the game in 96 i think against the Tiges at waverley on a cold rainy day and the tiges kicking a goal to hit the front with seconds to go only for the ump to pay a shepherding free against Richo to Dunkley when the ball had actually sailed 10 metres above their heads,Dunks should of got an academy award nomination that day,or that run of games in 96 when we beat pretty much everyone we played in melbourne including the blues and north at optus oval with Dunks again towelling up Carey.Just on Dunkley how good could he have been if he could kick better,in my book he was one of the best pack marks the swans have had in years.

Glad others remember this fondly too - it is one of my favourite Swans moments. Dunkley had actually given Richo a bit of a curry in the second quarter and the big galoot had been looking for payback from that point on. He got his payback, but it cost the Tiges the match. A good friend of mine is a Richmond girl and even now she cites this incident as proof of how mentally feeble Forrest Gump Richardson was.

He did his groin in that incident and missed the "Syyydddnnneeyyyy" game against West Coast and the the 1st Final v Hawthorn.

The birth of that chant is another great moment in our history.

I heard that he actually did the groin during the week before that game when he was getting over a fence at the greyhounds somewhere in Sydney. Perhaps at the time he should have been home and in beddy byes.

And by the way, I agree with this too. Dunks in '96 was at the height of his marking powers and it was a thing of beauty. Strangely enough, the only other Swan I can think of in the past 15 years who could come close to Dunks as a pack mark was the much (and in my view unjustly) maligned Luffy. He was a seriously good clamp in traffic.

Another great moment was in the 70's at the Lake Oval. Gary Brice who came from Port Melbourne and played mostly half forward flank was poleaxed by the little Fitzroy sniper/nancy boy Warwick Irwin with a wicked elbow to the temple just seconds before half time. Bricey lay prone on the ground seemingly destined for other parts. Trainers gathered around and tended to his crumpled body. We stood on the wing near the scoreboard with a large group of blokes from Port Melbourne and they started the "Port" chant that got louder and louder. Miracle of all miracles occured and Bricey started to move and slowly (very slowly) he raised his body from the turf. He got to his feet and he staggered/was dragged from the ground by the trainers. Cheers went up from around the ground. Needless to say he didn't appear after half time.

For us Lake Oval devotees Max James (father of Heath) took a truly spectacular mark right in front of us on the wing. He charged from a distance back and took off like a bird and sat on the shoulders of his opponent and held the ball firmly in his grasp to the ground.

A more, lets say, dark moment was at the Carlton Oval playing Hawthorn. Norm Goss had taken a mark in front of his face. He had fully lowered his arms with the ball when he was smashed from the front by one the greatest thugs of all time... the wonderful, lauded love child of Mike Sheahan...Leigh Mathews. Goss was carried off on a stretcher and I don't know that he was anywhere near the player he was after that incident. I can still see it and still hear it, it was dispicable. No report would you believe. Interestingly in an interview with Mike Sheahan on Fox recently he used the excuse that he was frustrated with his poor form at the end of career for smashing the face of Neville Bruns all over the same oval. The only VFL/AFL player who has ever been charged with assault on the footy field, he conveniently forgets all his other behind play and in play thuggery.

That Port game was brilliant to watch. I had a call from Adelaide Crows friends telling me that a son had called him in to watch the game as Port were being smashed by the Swans, mobile phoning another friend and cheering the Swans while laughing their heads off. Mad Mob. I know I have said it before, but it is possible to do an aeroplane loop of a cottage kitchen, and a mexican wave with four people on two couches, accompanied by a barking dog. We screamed. It was mad.

Yeah i was lucky enough to be there that day and the reason he went off was due to the fitzroy fullback Mark Zanotti was trying to scrag Lockett [can you imagine?]so plugger nwas called to the bench so he wouldnt retaliate,Im fairly sure Barrasi explained his extended stint on the bench as a miscommunication between he and the bench.

Agree with all the posts particularly the 2003 PF against Port. I have it on video. At one point the camera shines on a Port lady, she with all the other Port people, has this perplexed look on her face "Come On Port!" she wails in a disbelieving plaintiff voice. The same game Leo Barry makes a massive lunge in front of Gavin Wanganeen to spoil a mark and certain goal, hurts himself as he crashes to the ground, a stunning movement of the ball from HBF across the ground to Darryn Creswell who runs in, stutters, steadies and bangs a goal through (early last quarter), Barry Hall rushing to the wing to contest boundary throw -ins and keeps on knocking it out wasting valuable minutes , the bump on Kirk of course, Tim Lane making the comment "Everyone thought it was going to be a one-sided affair - trouble is its the wrong team" and then finally after the game - and I don't know if it is caught on tape - Darryn Cresswell pulling out his red and white jumper and showing it to the baying crowd.

And as a final postcript - the win got the Swans into the Prelim Final against Brisbane and channel ten had the "Sorry" introduction - 'The following people might like to apologise to the Sydney Swans. These experts said Sydney would finish last. Tonight they are playing for a place in the Grand Final".
