Regardless of who plays, or what their position is, I?ll tell you the one thing we need to defeat Collingwood this Saturday night.

Hunger. Raw, primal hunger.

We showed a bit of that hunger during the NAB Cup match in Melbourne, which was the first time in years we?ve put up ANY sort of show against the Magpies, before another slow start killed us.

To have any chance of winning, we must hit the field from the first bounce with the mentality of single-minded, cold-blooded assassins. No more losing the first quarter and all that follows.

And it would make no end of difference if our supporters turned up in a red-meat kind of mood, and stayed that way.

Deliberately fire up the team when they run out ? and keep them fired up all night. Remind Collingwood this is our home game, and this time, they can **** off back to Melbourne empty-handed, and stick their arrogant disrespect for us.

It?s time for everyone to stand up and make a statement.

Swans - by whatever it takes.

If we win the 3rd quarter I will be happy : )

But yes, time to take back this home game. I HATE (and I don't use that word often) having the Pies supporters come up here and sing their song with smug faces. Someone make this end!? Pleeeeeease?! I am begging.

IF that were to happen, big IF, then it would be one hell of a game to watch, let alone to be apart of. Surely the swans HAVE to go out there with the mentality of having 'nothing to lose, but everything to gain'. It's the only way that they'll even be in with a slight chance of winning.

Not good enough. This sort of attitude is lethal.

In any case, we've won four 3rd quarters out of a possible eight against Collingwood at Homebush. It's the first and second quarters we must start winning.

Right, because my attitude has a direct influence of the team's spirit and subsequently their chances of victory. I've generally taken the glass half-full approach to this match in the past 6 years, thought I might try something different this week.

Not even going to watch this game, we will get thumped. Carlton are a good side but not as good as what people make them out to be, our woeful play yesterday made them look alot better. I dont even want to think about what's going to happen on saturday. Im already looking towards the crows game. Collingwood by 47 points.

This is what made it tougher for me. They're kicking skills are much better though it has to be said. They tackled well too yesterday. But I do agree. Was very hard to listen to Ch7 crap on about how great they are when we made things much easier for them. Until the 3rd qtr Carlton weren't really kicking goals and we had set shots going out on the full!! We made them look very good yesterday and that really irks me. CH7 were spewing out rubbish in the 2nd qtr and we were only 19 points behind through fault of our own. I truly hope we meet them in September. I'm praying in fact.

I gotta say I'm lucky I don't live in Melbourne. I've been down for the GF and also a few other games and it's so different watching a game when opposition supporters out number you. I'm too used to kicking back in the O'Reilly stand, enjoying the afternoon with red&white all around. Anytime i encounter stupidity from opposition supporters my blood boils and I begin to morph into someone i'm not. Can anyone from Melbourne here tell me if things get really heated at AFL matches down there?? I almost got into trouble at the Carlton SCG match for trying to shut up a few Blues supporters and wasn't far off it with some Geelong and Richmond ones too. Always makes it easier when we win of course because you let the scoreboard do the talking but geez - i could be in trouble this Saturday night. There are going to be 10/20 thousand of them.

My pet hate when watching a Swans match is the arrogant Melbourne-based supporter "go back to following the rugby (sic) - you Sydney people don't know anything about AFL" attitude. Makes my blood boil sometimes....

I think we're probably better placed going into this game having bveen beaten comfortably than if we had have won.If we'd beaten Carlton, we would've gone in over confident and been smashed. I still think we'll lose, but after a performance like last week i beleive they will be fighting to win back some respect this week. The swans dont tend to get smashed two weeks in a row ( only 6 goals in the end, but it was a smashing ). Also, playing Carlton is a fairly decent warm up for Collingwood, there pressure at times yesterday was collingwood like. We should be well and truly aware of what we will be up against this week, the question is, is there anything we can do about it ?

Melbourne based supporters are pretty bad. In between stuffing their face with a cold pie, soggy chips and 12 dim sims they scream ball at the ball itself, become experts about your team in no time, trot out the clich?s about swans supporters and have this smug attitude about them.

The sad thing is, most of them don't really understand the code they go feral about and are just dumb.

But then again there are a few good ones among them!

Oh the whole rugby irks me. They know it's League and Rugby byt they love being arrogant about it in a "Pfft i dont give a stuff it's not rules" kind of a way. So i just retort by calling the game AFL instead of rules at every op and they hate it!

"AFL is the comp the code is called Aussie Rules..ok!!"

When I say 'i'm lucky I don't live in Melbourne' I mean....if I was supporting a Melbourne based team I think I would just be getting into arguments all the time with supporters of other Melbourne teams. Sydney games seem pretty tame compared to what i've seen in Melbourne. Maybe it's just because those were finals games and everyone was heated. I'm pretty much saying if i get fired up with opposition supporters around me at a Sydney game I would hate to see the Melbourne version of me where certain games don't really have too much of a one sided crowd.

I enjoy it, don't get me wrong. It's nice to have some verbal sparring partners, but it's hard work sitting there sometimes when someone is crapping on about your own team right behind you at your home ground. This Saturday night is going to be tough if we lose. Last year after the game at the Brewery outside the ground, hundreds of Pies supporters sang their song at the bar while raising their schooners and it just killed me. It was like they owned our town. I hated it. My blood was beyond boiling. I like to think I'm a fair sport but I take that to heart.

I remember a family friend telling me a story one night after I brought him along to a Sydney Essendon game. It was a Saturday Night and the Bombers prevailed in a close one. 2007 I think. It was the game where Hird kicked the ball back into play and he was clearly OOB's? Something like that anyway. I have a terrible memory.

My friend is Italian, passionate soccer/football supporter and it was his first live game of AFL. As we were walking out all the Bombers fans were singing their song and it echoed as we walked through the O'Reilly and my mate was so incensed that we were letting the opposition fans sing their song at our home ground. I found it pretty funny. I knew what he meant but I also knew it doesn't happen like that here. He said 'back home, if the opposition fans started singing their song someone would die'. He said 'Even if your team loses, don't ever let someone else sing their song louder than you. You sing united even when you lose'. What he said had merit, I guess, knowing full well our fans weren't about to burst into a rendition of Cheer, cheer! He yelled out in a thick accent, 'I'm gonna take home this red and black and wipe my @@@@ with it and flush it'. I was a little worried that we were about to get into a fight and then I though, 'stuff it, they can get screwed, I hate the Bombers'. Ever since that night I realised how important it was to stand up for my Team when someone else wanted to have a shot at them (much to my wife's dismay). If you see someone get escorted out no Saturday Night in Red&White you can take a guess that it might be me. I hope it isn't though.

I just don't know what i'll do this Weekend if we lose. Straight into the car and home I think. I couldn't handle hanging at a Pub in my own town while smug Pies fans flash stupid grins through their tooth. Call me a bad sport but it's one of the worst things in Footy. Feeling inferior on home soil. Gee it would be nice to really outnumber these invertebrate's and walk out to the sounds of a banjo solo.

And can I add, I have taken this guy to every Sydney/Bombers game since. It's our yearly ritual. If you ever hear a guy with a thick Italian accent yell out 'Bomb the Bombers', you'll know who it is.

I won't be going on Saturday- I have other committments in Canberra and couldn't make it if I tried. I have gone for Pies 40+, but whatever the result, I will be watching and hoping for a good reaction. There are several players in our team that need to stand up and lead and say what has happened this year against the good teams is not good enough. I want to see us have a real crack at it. If you are honest about it, the Pies are far too classy at the moment and should easily account for us- but if we turn up really up for it and ready to rip Collingwood a new one, then we can give them a real scare. A win seems all very improbably indeed, but footy is a strange game and nothing is impossible.

I have a friend up from melbourne (North Supporter) and the two besties who live on a freakin island coming along - I have forwarned them that the Swans will either be torn a new one - or win by a point - the will be no in between. Still we are sitting up in the platinum members - so I'm more excited about having wine served in a real glass at a footy than watching the actual game.
In all seriousness - as long as the lads put in 110% I will be happy - because after yesterdays trash - they need to redeem themselves.

Over/under - the number of goals we'll have at 3 quarter time: 2?

i'll predict we'll have 3.8 going into the last quarter.
Collingwood of course would be about 12.7 or something.

Then we'll get our usual 4-5 goal burst in the last quarter and hold Collingwood to say 2 late goals in the last quarter to lessen the blow.

I have also heard that the Ash Cloud is coming back again - so I'm hopeful that hire cales sales will be the only way the Pies can get here there has been a sudden rush on family and medium sized cars, so this will mean that the Magpies can only hire Smart Cars - I suggest they squeeze 4 players in each and because they are so fuel efficient, then no stopping along the way - 9 hours cramped in one of those things should do the trick.

What would be, like, you know awesome Horse, is to, ummm i dunno come out and completely change things around. Maybe try and be proactive for a friggen change rather than be reactive and please don't leave it to the last qrt.

But as has been said the script will read as:

Harry O will be left as a loose player across half back and will create run after run.
Didak will be played back into form and kick 4 goals and be allowed to do as he pleases
Dale Thomas will play like he is the best player ever to don footy boots..will kick a bag
Pies will cruise for the rest of the game after kicking 5 goals in the first 10 mins until being pushed late in the third to kick 4 goals straight in junk time

Unlike other years the pies won't be coming off a few bad losses and we will be playing them back into form as per 2005-2009.

Why do we even bother?

I would just like for us to keep up with the opposition instead of always being 5 paces behind. Take the marks that are easy for everyo other team to take, except us, KICK STRAIGHT AT GOAL - OURS PREFERABLY!!!! Dont try and be flash (and Kennelly must stop this friggin running around in circles crap!) - you can do it boys (I like to dream!).

The reality is though Daisy as usual will have a day out - Swan will gladly strutt around and show off his god awful tatts and kick a bag as will Cloke, Harry O will prance like a ballerina and not be touched, and Heath Shaw loves to step up a notch against his brother - I can see it all paying out in my head now. I think I need a Bex and a good lie down.

I will tip against the Swans, maybe that will bring us some luck. I know that we should keep the faith and think positive - christ I hope that I'm wrong and that we just win it. FFS SWANS - EXTRACT THE DIGIT AND PROVE US ALL WRONG - MAKE ANZ GO OFF!!!!

That can also come from Jessie who has been in some form in the Reserves. he would be exceptionally keen to redeem himself. This is the right time for him to prove that he belongs the Swan top team and no one ever question him again. He is the FF we have missed.
Then the positve pyschological effects will flow througth, blocking out feelings of defeat even before/during the early part of the game.

And I hope the coach, wont do the Roos insurance tactic again, as he has done last week(?), talking up the opposition players. I would rather he instill greater confidence on our player privately and publicly, even if he thinks privately the odds are against the Swan. More confident players would play truer to their abilities than the lack of confidence in their heads and the fear of their opponents.

Stay positive and play to your true ability and play smart.

I would love to even kick the first goal against Collingwood at ANZ! In my mind, that has not happened for a while!

I'm hoping we score more than 28 by 3 quarter time.

Absolutely beautiful weather today in Sydney, if a little cold. It's going to be chilly out at Homebush tonight.

Our odds have lengthened on a win. The punters must not have liked the changes to the team. White, Everitt and Bevan should be insulted!

MATCH
Sydney - $5.50
Collingwood - $1.15

They talk about contested possession so much but i really believe uncontested stats can tell a good story as well. The top 4 teams ladder wise rank in the top 5 teams. Sydney are last of the 17. Goes hand in hand with the low disposals as well. The Hawks who lead uncontested stats did that again last night when they pumped the Bombers. I know sometimes uncontested stats can mean that teams have kicked the ball around the backline to each other a bit but i don't believe that is true for the top teams. Hawks kicked with that much precision last night it wasn't funny. Their skills by foot are dynamite, much like Carlton/Pies/Geelong. Players rarely have to enter a contest because they are out in front, in space, marking the ball much easier. Our players always seem to be in a contest and when that results in a ball to ground we get burnt on the turnover. We really need to hold the ball tonight and the players need to work much harder in presenting -at ALL areas on the ground. If you don't have the ball - you can't win. Especially against a top 4. Patience with the ball - absolute hunger when we don't have it. C'mon boys!!!!!

Not even going to watch this game, we will get thumped. Carlton are a good side but not as good as what people make them out to be, our woeful play yesterday made them look alot better. I dont even want to think about what's going to happen on saturday. Im already looking towards the crows game. Collingwood by 47 points.

Give me "Cheer Squads" approach any day! If the supporters present tonight don't fire up, we're p*ss weak. It's still a game of footy with 18 players on the field. We live in hope.

Spot on. Probably the most concise summation I've seen of why we repeatedly fail against Collingwood.

Since we travelled from Hawaii and our son from Qatar (where the heck is that?), we are quite expecting a Swans victory. Expect the unexpected, plus we don't suffer from excess detailed knowledge which might temper our enthusiasm!

If nothing else I can get hoarse yelling my brains out.

You're an inspiration RY!

Oddly enough, I'm quite looking forward to tonight's game.

I guess all the RWOers who tipped the Pies were really sweating when the Swans went ahead in the last Q? Good thing good old Collingwood forever came through for you.

Would think a victory would have allayed any pain of the financial kind.

You're kidding right???

No. If I had so little faith that the Swans might win that I tipped against them I would find something better to do with my Saturday night. There was a while tonight when I thought my faith was justified. FWIW I've never tipped against the Swans and I've done pretty well in tipping comps over the years.

How about that - not one single person who voted in this weeks poll got it right.

I happy about that. I was one who tipped a flogging.
Although I did back them in my tips!!
