Swan Ben McGlynn in the thick of things, but still kicking goals (http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/swan-ben-mcglynn-in-the-thick-of-things-but-still-kicking-goals-20140808-101t0l.html)

Gotta love Benny. As I said last week he wants a Premiership so much he can already taste it.

I was wrong. At the end of last year I couldn't find a place for him in my best 22. Now he is one of our team leaders. His drive and determination is inspirational. I just love the way he attacks the footy. He is leading my B&F and should be AA.

I'll put my hand up and say I thought a few had gone past him, but proven WELL wrong. Thought he was too angry and prone to giving away frees. Now he tackles like crazy, kicks goals, never gives up even when it's all going the wrong way. Definitely one of the first picked now

I've said it before the two players I thought would be surpassed by the younger brigade this year were Benny and Birdy.
Wrong on both counts!!! :(
But so glad I was.

Scott, you could be onto something here - nominate a couple of others, eh?

:D

I think I did it a few years ago to, and the player ended up playing their best footy ever!!

I too marked down Benny at the end of last year because of his rubbish disposal. It's still a bit wayward but I suspect the censure of the RWO boards has helped push him to go to another level.

Still misses too many running goals when clear.

Like the one he snapped from the boundary last week? Suppose there's no pleasing some people, even after playing a game where you're the team's top scorer.

I refer to running into open goals not snaps. If he kicked just some of those he would be bracketed with the top midfielders of the comp.

You got your wish.

So hoping that I can wipe the memory of consoling Benny at the Star casino after the GF 2012 win with one of congratulating him after a GF win in 2014.

The guy wants a premiership so badly. One angry, emotional little man.

He has surprised the absolute @@@@ out of me this year and I couldn't be more happy he has proven almost all of us wrong.

I recall that in the pre season, in one of those "how do we entertain the fans until the season starts" interviews, a group of Swans players were asked which AFL player they thought would win the 2014 Brownlow Medal. They all gave predictable and rational responses, mostly nominating Gary Ablett, except Ted Richards. Ted nominated Benny. While I don't think he was serious that he thought Ben would win the Brownlow, I do think he was very serious when he said words to the effect that McGlynn was burning it up at training.

And I'm so pleased that Ben has taken that pre season form into the real games. He has been a favourite of mine since he arrived at the Swans.
