Often the role he's played this year has been at the cost of his own game or glory - he never seems to question that. A true Blood we should be very happy to call our own.

The tough midfielder started his first year as co-captain in solid form, although he wasn't as influential as his team needed to be as the Swans won just one of their first seven games. But Parker's past six matches have showed all his quality. The dual club champion has averaged 29.7 possessions (compared to 23.4 over the first seven matches), 14.2 of those contested (11.3), 6.2 tackles (4.6), and 5.8 clearances (5.5) over that period, and it's little surprise that the Swans won four games and lost to only Collingwood and Geelong to keep their slim finals hopes alive. Making Parker's performances even more important was the fact that fellow skipper Josh Kennedy missed three of those matches with a knee injury. Hawthorn came hard at the Swans on Friday night and with Lance Franklin and Callum Sinclair injured, the Swans produced a huge final term to seal the win. Parker had eight disposals, five tackles and three clearances for the quarter. How does the old saying go? 'If he played for a big Melbourne club…'

There’s been plenty of change to the Swans midfield in the past six weeks, namely Zak Jones going inside and George Hewett not locking down but becoming a major ball-winner.

The return of Luke Parker full-time can’t be ignored either. In Rounds 1-6, he played 72 per cent midfield and averaged 23 touches.

In Rounds 7-13, it has been 95 per cent midfield and an average of 28 disposals.

His past six weeks have returned 31, 30, 28, 28, 28 and 33 disposals. Of all the teams outside of the eight, the Swans suddenly look the most dangerous, not withstanding Franklin’s injury.

Without wanting to derail a much warranted thread, I wonder if the forced changes leading to our turnaround have helped individuals and the team. Specifically, has Joey being put created a more dynamic midfield and given Luke Parker and others a chance to step in. Has the team been better for it?

inside the rehab room? Has hardly played in the last 6 weeks. If anything Zak was playing mainly inside in the first 6 weeks and slowly moving outside before he was injured.
