With only two matches left in the AFLW minor round, this is our last chance to see our Sydney Swans play at home, against Fremantle at Henson Park on Saturday.

We are also in a good position to take out our first ever win, after going so close last week with a four points loss. Fremantle sit at 17th on the ladder (with one win and one draw) and continue to be hindered by injuries.

The Swans women were much better at maintaining structure ahead of the ball and using short kicks to retain possession last week. Fans are hoping to see this improvement maintained tomorrow.

Entry prices are Adults $10, Juniors under 18yo free. Note tickets must be purchased, or redeemed for free junior tickets, from Ticketmaster.

Swans AFLW members can download their mobile member ticket via smart phone and scan the QR code to enter the ground.

The game will be broadcast live on Fox Footy and Kayo, and on 7Mate in NSW and Qld.

Looking forward to this one. We came so close last week against the Bombers. It will be interesting to see how we respond on the field after the goal umpire's stuff up. Let's hope we're singing the song after the final siren.

BTW, how good was Hurley last week?

I was very happy to see it is a 3.10 pm start tomorrow. Had it in my head it was 1pm again. We are going to the movies tomorrow but will be home to watch. I hope the ladies can bounce back from last week's disappointment and get a very deserved first win tomorrow.

Interesting changes: Collier available at last. And Steane and Skinner dropped!

Maybe not the right thread for it, but interested to hear who people think who has been best player of the year.

A bit of a wildcard choice but Ella Heads as been awesome in defence and has been consistent every week.

Hurley kicks the first goal 🙂. Great tackle by Newman.

Agree that Ella has been great. Lochland and Szigeti both solid. Hamilton has had a great first season.

We've got the wind with us this quarter - but not next!

We've got the wind with us this quarter - but not next!

Unfortunately we only held level that quarter (3rd) when we needed to get ahead and are down at 3/4 time 4.3 to 5.4.

Swans will really have to dig deep to win this now with Freo coming home with the wind advantage.

Final score: Swans 4.4 defeated by Freo 6.6.

Lot to like by the Swans but not the win we hoped for.

I think that was a really encouraging performance...great crowd and Freo have actually been in most matches against the top contenders for a number of weeks now despite losing and their captain was immense.
We didn't have our coach on the sidelines today and we are playing a more accountable game which is allowing to score a lot more in recent weeks. Less congestion and a lot more running and structure.

Re coaching, apparently Scott Gowans missed the match due to illness so senior assistant Baker Denneman took over for the day. Nick Davis was also assisting.

From today’s match report:

"We went out and executed the game plan we wanted to, it was just unfortunate Freo were too good today ... I think it was just lapses in concentration for us and the ability to stay focussed for the four quarters, that's something we'll continue to work on." - Sydney senior assistant coach Baker Denneman

I also noticed Harley was on the boundary line giving instructions.

I really like Morphett.
Just my sort of ruck - very impressed, as you can see.

Privitelli's mark in the third (I think) was a cracker too.

Harley is a class act, so fortunate to have him at the club.

Yes, I was a bit surprised that Morphett wasn't listed as one of our best. When our midfield was going well in the clearances, I thought it largely stemmed from the physical work that Morphett was doing in the ruck. And since she doesn't turn 19 until next month, there's every chance that she'll gradually develop into a genuine star.

That one-handed, ‘don’t mess with me’, fend-off of Antonio was a thing of beauty! [emoji122][emoji122]

Sofia Hurley has been nominated for the AFLW Rising Star award following the Freo match in which she had 15 disposals, four clearances, three tackles and kicked a goal.

Great news as we had hoped Sofia might get nominated last week when she also played an outstanding game. She was named in the AFLW Team of the Week after that match.

Hurley is the second Swans nominee for this award following Montana Ham in Round 4.
