Rudd got up to make a speech - well a poor attempt at humour really - all this "I'm Kevin" crap - and what a man - picked Port because the wife told him too - excellent. Dont forget big Kev is a Queenslander - so he follows rugby league too - so should he have been there?. He's the No. 1 ticket holder for St.George Rugby League club and couldn't give a fig about AFL. He is also partial to dressing up in a poncy Rugby tracksuit when going for a walk. Mind you he would look even more stupid trying to wear an AFL guernsey I guess.

Is he not allowed to support his favourite rugby league team and also accept an invitation to an AFL breakfast? Everybody else is allowed to support more than one code. Yes, he would call himself a league man, however, I call myself an AFL man yet am still a passionate Sharks supporter.

Double irony is that I've heard criticism against Demetriou for (assumed) Labor bias expressed at functions that have nothing to do with politics.

The irony of this thread is that there is a widely held view that the AFL are proLabor. That view stems from the recent big clash between the AFL and the Commonwealth over what is the appropriate policy for illicit drugs.

I'm sure next year at the North Melbourne Grand Final breakfast Demetriou will be sucking up to Prime Minister Rudd, and practically ignoring Opposition Leader Costello.
