Personally iIthought that that was an appropriate call, it's a best and fairest after all. If you abuse the umpire than that should demote you way down the rankings in the votes, i would have thought. just 'cos they aren't consistent about it doesn't mean they were wrong in this instance.

My understanding was that the young umpire said he was told not to vote for Williams.

Edit: okay my understanding wasn't completely accurate;

Bird claimed that when he suggested Williams be given votes, Russo asked him if the mid-fielder had made their job any easier.

Bird said no and claimed Williams had given them a hard time during the game.

Whilst I agree that it is best and fairest, surely the "best" component has to come into it at some point? Williams had 44 disposals and didn't get a single vote.

It goes to show that maybe the Umpires shouldn't be giving the Brownlow Medal votes at all? Maybe a panel would be a better idea, consist of former players, media experts and former umpires.

Will the AFL reopen the case raised by Greg Williams? I believe there were revelations that an umpire gave an instruction, dismissed as an off the cuff remark, not to give him 3 votes following a game he was BOG in. He didn't receive the 3 votes and went on to miss out on the Brownlow by 1.

He does have a case, but that would make the AFL look stupid and wrong!! Nothing will probably happen.

That is the whole point of the article though - that the Swans did realise it was almost certainly an off-the-cuff, meant-to-be humorous comment and thus acted accordingly.

Those darn umpires! If it wasn't for them we would have been a successful club over the last few years, instead of this pathetic run of finals appearances, the 2 consecutive Grand Finals and the premiership.

We have been subjected to and adversely affected by "policy" umpiring for some time. This is different from mere bias and is the deliberate strategy of the AFL arse clowns to determine the style of the game. Reminicisent of the rule changes in billiards to beat the great Walter Lindrom.

We have had many debates on this forum on the continual lop sided free kick counts in Swans matches. Whilst the Swans playing style has contributed, many of us felt that the Swans have been treated harshly in the past.

Now we have evidence that this was and is the case!!

In light of this article, it is a joke that we now have a case to answer to in regards to match fixing. Can't wait to see how Roos handles himself.
