I saw Bobby Skilton play for The big V against hapless South Australian State sides on Adelaide Oval as a kid.. He was an amazingly dominant player ,racking up a huge amount of touches. He was a ball magnet with a loud voice and demanded the ball often running it considerable distance before kicking a goal or delivering a bullet like pass. His prescence on the field was awesome. He was a cut above the rest even in the star studded side he played in on those days.Hard to compare eras but he never faded out of the game and trying to tag him was a joke.

I think you could argue Hall ended up a better player for sydney than lockett. I would like to see some stats to compare. I know lockett lifted a rabble and gave a profile to the team and had a great influence on other players coming in and the success but Hall was a champion for us. He is still underrated when they talk about the big forwards, you hear pav brown riewoldt etc and i think Hally gets forgotten.

Having not seen Skilton play I couldn't coment.

Based on pure value to the team I'd be thinking along the following lines:

1 Kirk
2 Kelly
3 Goodes
4 Plugger
5 O'Loughlin

I think the idea with being the best player on an awful team where it comes to the Brownlow is that whilst you might only get one or two games with 3 votes you could probably rack up a fair chunk of 1 or 2 vote games pretty consistently.

It will be interesting to see how the best player in the league goes with the GC Suns on Brownlow night.
On Goodes, today's Hun says he is, for periods, the most destructive player in the game. He's more versatile than Skilton was, but how else you'd compare them, I don't know. I never saw Skilts play but those who did see him rate him above any other Swan..

At his best maybe, but I think reliability would have Kelly and Round ahead of him. Never had the privilege to see Skilton in action, so I couldn't fairly compare him to Goodes.

Loved the big bloke but even Barry would be pissing himself being compared to Goodes. Got a feeling Plugger may have had a bit over Barry as well.

decide at the end, players become better after they are gone. I love Paul Kelly but he gets better every year he is retired. Let goodsey have the same time. I dont think Goodsey has ever been as loved as say Kelly in the 90s or skilton seems to have been back in the old days.

Goodes is without doubt the greatest Sydney Swan ever, but no one can get close to Skilton.
Lockett was one of the greatest of all time, but played less than one hundred games for us. I think longevity has to be taken into account.
Kelly was a super player and close to the leagues best between 1995 - 2000, but didn't have the ability or versatility of Goodes.

Adam Goodes is the best Swan I've ever seen play, and beyond that he's my favourite football player. Sure he can be frustrating as all hell at times, but I don't believe I've ever seen a more dominant player when he's on song. Adam Goodes is, to me, the embodiment of why I watch football.

I am too young to have ever watched Skilton- Paul Kelly did amaze me but I still view Goodesy as the better player. I think it's pretty subjective, though.
