IF GWS's home crowds ever exceed ours, that to me will be the perfect time for my current suspicion to turn to outright hatred. Well unless they are all new converts to the game and both teams average at least 30,000. And don't start me on people turning from Swans to Giants supports a-la Mel Whatsername from Sunrise

The AFL telling me that we have to have a rivalry with GWS doesn't wash with me either. Howabout for us Sydney-based supporters, we can have the West Coast rivalry, whilst the St Kilda rivalry can stay for the Melbournites. One team, two rivalries???

Correct!! My hatred for St Fail and theit supporters was born that night in 2005. You wouldn't find a bigger bunch of wankers except for the toothless wonders from Victoiria Park.

Every win now against them is now super sweet. The semi final last year was better than sex (yes I realise I'm clearly not doing it....

    right).

Yep yep and yep. Nope felt the same as a pies or blues match. The rival was for the battle of the lake..considering we havent played at the lake in 31 years then its void.

As i said our rival is with West Coast, 2 GF and plenty of close matches.

No that won't wash. Too nebulous. Now North Melbourne sending me, a card carrying Swans member, a membership application to join Norths was enough to send me into a stratosphere but that was on top of them beating us in '96.

GWS, the team, has to do earn my disrespect. Like Collilngwood has. I am just not going to give it away willynilly!

Wont happen for a loooong time. Maybe when they finally concede that Canberra is their base..and that wont be much of a rivalry.

The St Kilda one is past history..doesnt apply as much no more. Maybe to the remaining OLD south fans.

Our geniune rivalry is with west coast. I mean 2 GF, close ones at that and a plethora of close finishes. Plus mickey and fatty etc.

IMO, St Kilda is our traditional rival and the Evils our contemporary rival. North Melb are another. Until GWS actually beat us I wont consider them a rival at all. I look forward to the day we see Swans v GWS games in Sydney attracting the same sort of capacity crowds and levels of passion that you see in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth for the big traditional derbys. GWS will need some success as a team before that happens, so I wish them well getting there.

Why is it bad to hate GWS? They deserve everything thrown at them in terms of hate. They should be dispised and boo'ed..not gushed on, not pampered too.

Sometimes i think some of our sydney based supporters like to be all high and mighty with their attitude.

A fair point, Primmy. I think most people have an interest/soft spot for a team that plays a lot of talented youngsters who have a crack, and so far this season that's exactly what GWS has been doing.

People appear to acknowledge the irrelevance of a manufactured/artificial rivalry (Swans vs. Brisbane for rivalry round?) as opposed to a legitimate one (Swans vs. Weagles 05/06), yet instantly assume that Swans fans MUST hate GWS because their post code starts with a two too.

More of a little baby brother spoilt syndrome.

And more about how arrogant the AFL is, but thats not hardly a revelation.
