Great article. She is not attacking the swans at all..she mirrors my hatred for the AFL admin and most of the victorian media while professing a love for the red and white. Watching swans fan go on about GWS at the start of the year was hurtful and pathetic.

Some of you should put down your rose coloured glasses and see the reality of what the AFL is really about.

Hurtful and pathetic are you for real? Honestly you would think its the end of the bloody World with GWS coming in. FFS it's footy it's not life or death. The AFL isn't perfect but in all honesty what large organization is? So Swans members if you dare have anything positive to say about GWS There will be hell to pay.

I'm not certain that the AFL shouldn't have tried their luck on the central coast, a place screaming for their own league team but will never get one. Perhaps they would have adopted AFL if given a team, and getting people to go there would be easier than Blacktown, nit like the GC analogy. People in general are slow to change and adopt new ideas. The things i've been reading about crowds in the 90's, 8000 at games is a bit better now, and with the stadium under construction, yd expect a bit of drop off. I would expect that the Geelong game and a few other s will have good crowds, provided we are given a chance of winning. If the Melbourne media didn't completely ignore us or give us little chance of achieving anything, we might get better crowds abd I'll say again, our club, or the AFK needs to throw some money at the daily telegraph for a bit better coverage. Exposure is everything, and with 2 teams now in Sydney, you would think that one of teh tv stations might be ablre to throw together some sort of Sydney AFL show. Couldn't be any worse than the tripe served up now

I don't read her league stuff, but the bits that I've read about AFL by Wilson (is she still putting herself forward as a keen Swans fan?) are, to me, vague and usually come across as gossip columns with little analysis of the game itself. I find it an enormous dissapointment for women in a male dominated media when the female talking heads that get column space roll out gossip and not analysis. I never read a lot of her work because she has always seemed to mainly work on league, but we need more Debbie Spillane's coming through the ranks and getting attention.
