Maybe you don't know, The Runner, but 'fairy' is a word with clear homophobic connotations. It has no place in this forum unless it is clearly used in another sense. For the very reasons you outline it was perjoratively applied to gay men. Gay men have since reappropriated the term. Language can be arbitrary. Perhaps Runner had something else in mind? I did not make the correlation between the signified and signified you did above. Perhaps that could be due to our differing contexts. Any act of communication is wrought with difficulty (including this one) and is heightened because it is not face to face. I for one, would give Runner the benefit of the doubt. Call me ignorant, but that did not seem like homophobic slander.

I've thought all season that Parker has been struggling physically. I think his knee issues have caught up with him. When was the last time we saw him really launch himself in the air for a high mark like we regularly saw a couple of years back? I just think the knees mean that he can no longer do that and it might have also robbed him of some vital speed.

I reckon Hannebery's last month has been at or near standard. For me, last week was downright heroic. Took the blow to the head and kept coming. I'm proud of the way he's fought back and happy for him.

I agree. Hanners is currently where he should be. Parker is my concern, and he can't blame injury for his poor form.

I frankly cannot see any circumstances, other than tanking, where I would play Sinclair again. Towers has improved and will need to continue to do so to hold his spot, if not this year, then next. But it is good to see him tackling better and playing more consistent footy.

He looked like a turnstile in a clutch moment against the Hawks. I've seen parking meters with more spatial awareness than him.

Pretty simple - a backline with no run or clean use, a slow midfield getting beaten up, and a sluggish forward line.

Nankervis left because Naismith was seen as a sure thing. He was elite the last 8-10 weeks last year, but nowhere in 2017.

Ugg's observation regarding Richmond and their total fantasy points this year compared to last (and compared to their relative ladder positions in each season) tells us how limited fantasy points are in assessing what is happening on field.

That said, we don't need any numerical measure to know that our core of gun midfielders have been down on performance compared to last year - Kennedy by a bit, Hanners regaining ground over the last month (even last week, he was not too far off his norm), Parker by a significant amount, which may or may not be due to having practically no pre-season (but almost certainly is) and Jack by dint of injury and now absence.

This group, together with Franklin, Reg/Smithy/Rampe down back, and, in the first half of the season, Tippo. carried the younger players last year. I think we've come to take for granted that these players can sustain such a high level of performance almost indefinitely. Most of them are trying but it's a tough ask. The good news is that help is emerging, with several of the newer brigade starting to show they can hold down more than just support roles, but it will take time before enough of them can do so enough of the time to relieve the pressure on the tried and tested warriors.
