Sheahan kicks Magic in the guts

    Michael O'Loughlin remains a handy third-string forward.

His danger in front of goals is probably not the greatest, but I was really impressed with his play on Saturday night. Glimpses of great skill, but in general, a great work ethic.

As for work ethic though, how good is Barry Hall? At the very end of the game he's still way up past midfield contesting ball! Great haul and unbelieveable hard work from the champ!

He still commands the opposition's second best defender though, although he got Fletcher the other night.

It's just a shame he can't kick straight.

That seems a fair summation of where the Swans are at at the moment. I think the term "third string" would be better stated as "third forward" or "number three forward" behind Hall and O'Keefe.

I've always thought of MOL as a makeshift full forward (and Leo as a maeshift full-back). Isn't that what we recruited Ted for? So it's not really surprising that these guys can be caught out on the odd occasion.
Mol's yipps makes me wonder whether MOL feels the responsibility of full forward a tad more than is good for him?

In my view Micky O played his best footy in 2003 at full forward. He still had his nimbleness, could take a high mark, could crumb the packs in a roving role. He was impossible to play against because he was both marking forward and crumbing goalsneak who often was the benefactor when teams were.

These days his efforts are often sporadic. His goalkicking is often an embarrassment as well. Had we lost the GF I think there would have been a far greater inquest into his pretty easy misses (as well the onespurned by Jude Bolton & Adam Goodes from memory).

He did a few good things on Saturday night. So when playing well DOES still pose a potential danger to opposition defenders. It is just a matter of how often he capitalises on the opportunities he has that that makes the difference as far as I'm concerned.

Wouldn't mind trying Paul Bevan or Simon Phillips as a small crumbing forward. And giving Teddy Richards a go at FF or FP as a dummy forward (even though there is the risk of him clogging up the forward line & opportunities for Barry Hall)

I still think he has the quickest hands in the business. He is one Swan that never jumps on a ball, but then, he is so good with his hands there isn't a need.

Just had a read of the article and based on Shehan's comments on the couch tonight you are reading that wrong.

Shehan reckons with both O'Keefe & Hall in top line form, that makes O'Loughlin the most dangerous third forward going around.
